Linux on iMac?

martin8777 (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 3rd August 2006, 10:22

has anyone ever tried installing linux onto an old iMac ?

I`ve got an old G3 iMac knocking about which I want to put to use for playing mp3s and was thinking of putting in a bigger hard drive. I dont have any mac OS install cds so was thinking of installing ubuntu onto it.

just wondering if anyone`s tried anything like this and how successful it was and what it runs like?

cheers,

EK

I don`t think you`re likely to find anyone here who has done this. But, here`s a link with some useful info if you haven`t come across it already:

I`ve not done Linux on an Imac before, but the Mac distro of choice is Yellow Dog Linux, which is based on Fedora Core on the PC, rather than Ubuntu. Might be worth giving that a try too.
