EmilyHoward (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 7th December 2005, 14:49

Just had my old STB taken out and a new cable modem (NTL 250) put in it`s place - and it goes like stink!!!

Downstream 9178 Kbps (1,147.3 KB/sec) 9912 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 493 Kbps (61.6 KB/sec) 532 Kbps (inc. overheads)

So, if you are still on their service, get pestering them to upgrade you

Were you both on the 3Meg service before? I`m on 2 Meg and they told me that I would be upgraded by the end of 2006 :(

I was, but if you tell them you are going over to <insert any ISP provider name here> then they will probably offer it to you now. I was seriously going to move, phoned them up to tell them (Was also cancelling the phone service) and they came up with half price (and not for a limited time), free upgrade (They are charging some people 50 quid) and the 10mb service now.

They will let you have it now, but you have to upgrade from the mid package (2mbit) to the top level package (3mbit, but now 10mbit). So you`ll be paying £37.99 a month for it. If you wait for the proper rollout you`ll get 10mbit for £24.99 same as the 2mbit you`re on now (same as I am), but with a lower download limit than the £37.99 customers.

When the rollout is done everyone will be on 10mbit, the price differences will depend on what download limit you choose to be on (they haven`t been announced yet, but talk is the 2mbit customers will still be on 30gb a month).

I`m hanging fire until they upgrade me normally, as I don`t want to put the bill up. I did it online last time, but that wasn`t switching tiers like this time.

They`re not interested in giving me any half price offer, so I`m going to have to wait for the free upgrade from 2 meg, whenever that might be :(

I was on 2MB and always got a steady 2000/200 upload/download from adslguide`s Speed Test.
Now my download generally varies from 800 to 2000 (seen 4000 a couple of times) but upload is 500.
