You could tell him to buy a bigger one............. Oh my sides..........

A bit more info would be appreciated. Has he tried several USB devices in it and they all dont work? What was the last thing he did to the laptop before it stopped working? Has it got winXP and have you tried a system restore? Has he dropped it recently?

and so on..........

Nick, great joke (:¦ , we have tried a number of devices IPOD being one of them. The machine is running windows XP and no we have not tried a system restore, no I am not aware of it being dropped.

We will try the system restore first. Thanks for your help.

Telboy i have a Fujitsu laptop, only 2 months old and its off to get fixed as all usb ports failed, again no matter what usb device was plugged in.My modem for example would last for half an hour before the lights went off and the laptop wouldnt recognise anything to do with USB and it would report malfunctions etc, anyway i phoned them yesterday and they are replacing my mainboard and heatsink, hard drive formatted for bugger all!

Sis in Law had exactly the same problem with her desktop recently. Somehow they`d been turned off in the Bios.
Have a look wether they appear in the list under System/Hardware/Device manager.
If not check the Bios.

Guy`s, I still cannot get the USB`s working. I have tried a system restore, which didn`t work, I have also checked the BIOS but cannot see where to check if the USB`s are enabled or not. HELPPPPPPP.

go into the device manager (right click on my computer icon and select properties then hit the button) and see if it lists Universal serial bus controllers and if so whether they are all okay and think the hardwares operating.
Try plugging in a usb device that takes power from the usb port and see if its powered up for that matter.
There are various reasons for usb dying, one being the freeserve frog modem which operates on the assumption that all usb sockets allow for a certain amount of power demand above the amount specified in the USB standard and therefore will blow up any motherboard that follows the standard and doesn`t

Cynic, I have checked the device manager and the Universal serial bus controllers is not shown. I have checked everywhere and it is no where to be found.
