does anyone have a HDCD music cd? there is a cd on ebay that i would like it states that it is a HDCD and seems to have 3 albums on 1. it comes from china so i`m a bit unsure if its a genuine product and if its any good - the auction states the quality is better than a standard cd. do they play on all products. thanks for any info, sandra

Indeed, you will need a player that`s specifically HDCD compatible. I`ve got the Arcam Alpha 9 which can handle them (the Alpha 8SE can too, amongst others). They do sound good.

The Chinese CD on ebay is almost definitely a pirate. I got a HDCD copy of Pink Floyd`s "The Wall" from China via ebay, and it plays and sounds fine. However, although the cover is obviously quite professionally produced, it`s chock full of spelling mistakes.

Just to clarify - HDCDs will play on any standard CD player, but you won`t get the benefit of the improved sound quality unless you have a HDCD-compatible player.

I think it depends on the disc. My aforementioned Pink Floyd HDCD won`t play on a standard CD player, it jumps and skips as if it has loads of greasy fingerprints on it. Maybe it`s because it`s iffy and Chinese, I don`t know. :/ I`ve Roxy Music and Dire Straits stuff on HDCD which does play on standard CD players, though, but without the the HDCD sound.
