Toshiba SD510E

Binky (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 14th February 2002, 09:55

Anyone got one ? I`m looking for my first player, and am interested in hedging my bets about DVD-Audio.

I want to play multiregion, but the only one I`ve seen is from LeConcepts at 399 quid. Anyone found one cheaper ?

I`m torn between this and a Pioneer DV-545. LinkOnline have this at 250 quid.

most shops seem to have sold out of the Pioneer 545. The ones that have one want more money. Pioneer UK seems to run out with lead tmes of about 2 weeks +.

I couldn`t wait and went for the 444 multi-region + macrovision disabled from AV Land.

I`ve seen it at Techtronics.com for 319 quid fully modded or 295 quid Region 2 only.Includes delivery.
I`ve got the 2109 but my new tele has got component inputs so I want to change it.I`m torn between SD2110E or SD510E. I can`t find any reviews that tell me which is better.

Guys,

Having just borrowed one of these machines of my mate for review purposes, i can wholly say that the 510e beats the Pioneer machines hands down. For £400, (but i`ve seen it as low as £249), you get;progressive scan, DVD Audio, component video outputs, 5.1 decoder, HDCD Decoding, bomb proof build, and simply stunning picture quality. Viewing Disneys Atlantis was simply sublime-with the lights down it was as if there was no screen, just some 3D picture show going on inside a box made by Toshiba!
If you can hunt one down, get one-its the unsung daddy of the mid price decks (dare i say, on an even par with my Sony DVPNS900!!??).

P.S. I`ve just read What Hifi, they give it five stars :-)

Is the picture quality on this better than the Sony 735D? Would I be better buying this Toshiba or should I go for the Sony which costs £360.

I cant comment on the Tosh, but I own the Sony 735D and it is superb. Quality Transfers are outstanding. Despite that fact that I have watched Gladiator numerous times, the first time I saw it on the Sony was like watching it from scratch -seriously...
I could not believe how much more I saw, especially in the background of the picture, ie, in the colosuem. Over the moon, as all AV aspects are top notch.

Brief but to the point.

Pete.

With a decent, large widescreen tv the 510e will knock spots off the 735d (oh how i miss mine-such a top machine Pete, never sell it!), but on a 4;3 tv or a standard curved screen tv the picture will look almost the same as anything else.
If you`re prepared to use some quality cabling to get the most from it, the 510e will make everyone in your street wild with jealousy!

Westy or EITel

I have looking around the net for the best price on this deck, and nobody comes close to the £249 you both mention in your posts - perhaps you can let us know who is selling the player at this price, and whether it is available in black. LeConcepts are the only supplier I have come across with this option, but at a cool £399 for a multiregion model.
