Panasonic TX32DK1 v Philips PW6006 32" Widescreen ?

Hamburger3 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 19th November 2001, 18:57

I have seen both these sets for about the same price but does anyone know if one is better than the other ?

I dont think the Philips autoswitches, but then Im not sure if that is a feature that is important ?

Im most interested in NTSC compatability and a flatter screen.

I have the links to sites with information on both sets below if they are any help.

I have found both sets for a very similar price, so I need some help.

I`m very pleased with my DK1, not the flatest screen out there, but still a very good picture with little distortion at the edges. The Quintrix tube is about as good as 50Hz FST gets I reckon. NTSC performance is flawless, R1 T2 UE, Saving Private Ryan DTS and even Dinosaur all look wonderful, I don`t think you would feel that PAL versions of these movies offer any improvement in picture quality. As a stand alone TV the Nicam sound is good but not great, with an AV amp, it`s a brilliant monitor.
Good luck!

I`ve gone for the Panny, partially (this may sound mad) because I prefer the look of it - the top of the Philips set is curved, so would be a pain to put a centre speaker on (also there is a control on top which would get masked). I posted a question about the Panny here a week or so ago, and got nothing but good feedback. Mine arrives friday, so I`ll post my comments... (although Sanejo`s seem v encouraging!)

hi H3, I have checked the philips and it does auto switch...I have gone for the panny even though I was initally tracking the philips (unbeatable.co.uk for £475 without stand £5254 with stand). Got the panny for £540.00 with stand.

Cheers for all the replys.

RichardH - I will look forward to your posting when the Panny arrives.

Happy - Thanks for the autoswitching information.

Does anyone know how good the panny is as far as reliability ?
