Samsung LCD TV picture fault?

allmyusernamesweretaken (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 9th January 2007, 20:29

Having probs with our Sammy LE32R74BDX TV. :(

Red band down one side about 1cm wide and all the blacks have red shadowing. We`ve had a great picture up until now.

John Lewis are ringing back tomorrow, but I`m just wondering if it`s anything we can correct? We`ve restored factory settings etc. Don`t want to look a total moron if the engineer comes and it`s something we could have sorted by pressing a button on the remote!

Many thanks :)

Have you checked all leads and connections? What connections are you using? SCART is the most likely to be causing this, although I guess it would also be possible on component or HDMI.

Hi, thanks for the reply,

We`re using a decentish ribbon scart (Monster maybe?), tried swapping it with a spare El Cheapo, but it hasn`t made any difference to the fault.

John Lewis haven`t phoned back, so I`ll have to chase them up :(

If its on all input sources etc then that implies hardware not connection issue to me.

Have you tried rebooting it?

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

Todays goal is to exceed yesterdays record level of totally unverifable productivity.

I don`t understand why people knock ASBO`s, they are good things as for most of the recipients, these are the only qualifications they will ever have.

Yeah, but we still have the fault athough it does come and go.

Samsung are taking it away for repair (and probably me with it!), so that`ll be us sat infront of the portable again.... :(

I always dread the word `repair`.
I tell you,it`s worth arguing with John Lewis.
I`ve twice had electrical items bought from them fail on me and I`ve twice refused repairs, arguing that "I don`t want to see that piece of crap ever again".
I`ve always managed to go for replacements of a different make.
Replaced a faulty Toshiba DVD with a Panasonic and replaced a faulty Hitachi TV with a JVC.
I had to pay a wee bit extra on both occasions, but I didn`t mind.

I have no faith in repaired items.

I always think a faulty item is a faulty item is a faulty item...

Tbh, I agree with you. I`m also wary, because the fault is intermitent (sp), I can see them returning the TV and saying nothing`s wrong. So I have at least photographed the evidence and will send it with the TV .

We bought from JL for the free 5yr warranty and the good service after having a poor experience with some other retailers. I was really disapointed when they said we had to take it up with Samsung, which meant hanging on the phone listening to dodgy music etc, I had assumed JL would fight our corner.

I like the Sammy, wouldn`t want a different make.....but I am wondering if I can push a bit more on this, given the bloomin` tv is only 2.5mths old :(

Prepare for a long wait, ours went away and was gone for 3 weeks before they diagnosed the fault as being the main board needs replacing.

Turns out there are only 2 components in it, main board and screen.

Then waited another 4 weeks for it to be delivered as Samsung didn`t have any.

In the end got TV back after just over 9 weeks away for repair.

When it went faulty again wrote to Samsung to say if it is likely to take the same time for repair we want a replacement set instead, after 4 weeks got a letter from Samsung to say it was the main board again, no delivery date available for the parts and they would authorise a replacement.

Took faulty set in to Currys with letter from Samsung, luckily we spoke to the store manager who was very helpfull as the drones in there were only interested in selling us a new TV, didn`t seem to understand what returns or exchanges were.

Left Currys an hour later with brand new TV and £300 credit note because the price had come down by £300 since we bought ours.

All the best

Gerald.

Thanks for the reply Superted.

I didn`t see your message in time and the TV has already gone on it`s "hols" , so I guess we`ll have to see. The people mending it are local and seem OK, but when I spoke to Samsung on the phone they told me they`d try to get a loan tv out to us, the repairers had never heard of them doing that before...and you`ve guessed it, no loan TV has arrived :(

I`ll see how it goes, any trouble and I`ll be straight on the blower to JL. We`ve had terrible trouble with Mastercare in the past over 2 laptops, couldn`t believe the lies they spouted, it all ended messily with OH and I turning up on their doorstep to sort it out. Had hoped that buying from JL would avoid that type of scenario.

Fingers crossed

Brief update...

Well, nearly 2 wks on and we`ve finally found out the "panel" need replacing...not sure if this means the screen or a circuitry (sp) panel....OH called and he`s not big on details.
But they haven`t got the part and don`t know how long it would take to get one, hadn`t bothered to phone us and haven`t returned our receipt in the post as promised >:(

Have complained to John Lewis and they are suposed to be calling back ...
