Amplifier kit suggestions

Maynard (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 15th September 2001, 18:20

I want to upgrade to DD5.1/DTS and was wondering what amplifier kit (speakers etc) is the best. I wanna spend about £200 - 300. I already have a Philips 28" Pro-Logic and Samsung 511 DVD help appreciated.

you have set your self a good amount of money £300 will get you a good system.

a web site i recommend or if you live close to one of there shops are http://www.richersounds.com (you can order a catalog of there website)

(amp)
the kenwood KRFV5040 (£180) this has dts/dolby digital with 100w per channel

(speakers)
gale movie star (£119)

the 2 rear and two front and the centre front.

this takes you to the end of your buget. (without a subwoofer)
right the above stuff is a real good price. a good sub will set you back about £119

but you can shop around.

i got my technics SA-DX940 for £399 at currys this came with all you need,

hope this helps

I went with the KRFV5050 amp from Richers in B`Ham £180 ish, and went with the Eltax Stargate X.1 5 satellites and Sub set from QED £109, they sound fantastic to me and comes in at the £300 mark, including the sub.

Cheers
Richard

...and when you consider the sub supplied with the Stargate system at QED is actually available separately for £99.95 at richersounds, I happen to think the QED package a `bit of a bargain`!!
