SEG DVDR500 DVD Video Recorder -

:/

I bought the above and it works well. I wanted to pass on a recorded DVD to a friend however the manual states .....` you must finalise to play on another DVD player, if you don`t do it, you can only play it on the device that created it`.

To finalise it, the manual states you use the edit disc menu. Problem is I can see this menu but it will not allow me to select it ?

Any thoughts ????

Hi

It is a dvd recordable and not a rewritable you are using?
If its a rewritable its not needed.

;) Thanks for the reply ... I am using a `DVD+RW`

I can access the menu but the `fialise` button does not activate. I suppose my main problem is actually that the disc I produced originally could not be read by my friend`s machine. Is there a link ???

As you are using +RW, as blodwin said, It is not necessary to finalise a recording.
The reason why the `finalise` button will not work is because the machine has sensed that it is a +RW disc in the tray.
When you use a +R you will find that it should work then.

I`m afraid that`s a case of `C`est la vie` or so it seems.

I`m sure that someone on here might be able to offer you a better explaination.

Maybe it just doesnt like that brand of disc.

Hi again

One thing you could try if you have a benq burner and possibly others if they have simular software is change the discs book type and then they will sometimes play ok.You can change them back at will or do a full erase and some home recorders will also change the disc back when you want to reuse the disk.

I have just bought the same DVD recorder and have the same problem. Using any of 3 different makes, including the one that came with the machine, it won`t let me finalize. In the edit menu, finalise is grey, and won`t let me select it. It won`t let me format either (though I don`t understand whether I need to).
The manual is rubbish and is very vague about the finalise process which is only one tiny sentence which just says... choose finalize and press select. Can anyone help?? I am usually good with technology and run a state of the art recording studio and yet I am being beaten by a dvd recorder!!!

A +R disc is use once only. These discs need to be finalised to play on another machine. A +RW can be recorded on many times. By definition these discs can`t be finalised and indeed don`t need to be to play on another machine. The problem is that not all dvd players will play +RW discs. Check carefully to see what discs you are using.
