Welcome to the new Hardware forum

As the General forum is getting busier, and some interesting discussions are dissappearing too quickly off the main page, we`ve created a new Hardware forum for all queries related to, well, DVD hardware I guess.

Please do not use this for Region Hacks postings, they should still go in the appropriate place.

hi all,
i`ve recently purchased a Sony Home Cinema package which includes....
STR-DB940 Amp
SA-VE705/702 Pascal speakers with Subwoofer
DVP-S336 DVD Player

The problem I have is that I can`t get a really good Bass sound unless I turn the sub level to max and then it just booms. I`d like a real deep resonant floor shaking bass which I thought I`d get spending this kind of money! I have fiddled with the "Low Frequency Effect" to no avail.

Any help with this strange problem would most appreciated.

Thanx

I don`t think you can unfortunately there`s no substitute for inches when it comes to moving air, for really deep bass. You could try the old trick of moving the sub into a corner but check your volume levels as you might suceed in localising the bass (the bass should be a feeling more than a direction) and again it might just boom.

Odd, I have a sililar package,

DA-50ES Amp
725 DVD
Pascal 705s

and I get very good bass - I only have the sub turned up about 15 % or so in fact, any more and it dominates (unless I want volume and then I wind it up a tad)

I`ve found the `music` setting on the sub is best for my room which is about 4x5m I guess.

I should be trying an 930 Amp soon (the 50ES is one I`ve borrrowed, the 930 is actually mine but I`ve never used it.... it`s a looooooong story)

John
