Recomendations for a cheap multiregion dvd player with RCE playback?

Conan (Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 11th April 2001, 11:03

I am new to the whole dvd thing as was wondering if anyone had any recomendations for a cheap (<£200) multiregion dvd player that has RCE playback facilities. Preferably retailed through the high street, but not essential.
Many Thanks

Hi - I am new to this whole DVD thing aswell: I just bought my first DVD player last Friday!

After much research, I went for the LG3200E. It can be easily "hacked" through the remote control to be multi-regional, or for a specific region (eg. region 1 to play RCE discs). "DVD Review" magazine were impressed with it and (so far!) I have had no problems.

The "hack" is available on this very website - just go to "Region Hacks" under "Forums" (it also has hacks for most other players).

This player is easily available in "Toys`r`us" for £169.99, but I got mine from Argos for £139.50! It is not actually in their catalogue, but most stores have it in place of the advertised (and RCE unfriendly!) Alba 103.

Happy Hunting!

Also try the Proline DVD2000 for £128 it does what you want i.e. play DVD`s and RCE disks. The picture and sound quality are top notch as well.

Cheers

I`ll chip in with the Samsung 511. Easily hackable for multi-region (and RCE), very nice picture.

Nooooooo!!
Now that the Aiwa 370 is back in stock in Britain, it can be the only choice! lol

Well, there`s the LG 3350 too, but it isn`t as good on the VCD playback, has a dodgier remote, but has bookmarking features and an integrated 5.1 decoder. It`s also a bit more expensive from those who have them in stock.

Simple answer: £200 and under, Aiwa 370 (with 3 DVD`s at the minute from Comet)
£250-ish LG 3350.

More info: http://choosefirst.co.uk
(by the way, the new Aiwa`s are black!)

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!!
(omg..what sig am I gonnaa use after this weekend..???)

Jim,
I took your advice and bought the 370 - £199 with 3 free DVD`s from Comet. Watched my first film last night (Fight Club) and was very impressed with the picture and sound quality. Thanks for your expertise in helping me decide. By the way, have you been able to confirm that the hacks fully work with this European version?

The Schneider DVD 511 at Asda is real Bargain at 129.00 and you get a Free 3 year guarantee, it`s easily hackable for multiregions, I`ve had it for 2 weeks and it`s brilliant. The only slight weakness is the sound quality, so I pipe it into my HiFi, Wow - Best Bargain this year!.

Polo.

Good DVD bargains at Asda too. 2 for 20 quid!

I`ve just got myself an LG 3000e from Tesco for £150. It`s identical to the LG 3350, but has`nt got the integrated DD decoder. It Gives noticeably better picture and sound quality over the LG 3200e, and makes the 3000e the better deal (IMHO).
