Multi-regional dvd players

EvilConspiracy (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 18th July 2004, 13:17

Hi, I`m looking for a multi regional dvd player for a under £100, I`ve seen a couple but I don`t know which to buy, any advice would be helpful. I want to play region 1 dvds (mostly) but i dont have a NTSC TV (although i could buy one if needs be), does this matter? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

got this as a present for work, multi regional out of the box. would play dvd+r but not vcd`s.

or just check out the multi region hacks section for a player that you can change.

as to the tv, most modern tv`s will play NTSC with out any problems. mine was a cheap one from tesco`s and i`ve never had any problems.

I recently picked up one of these for my father in law, and it`s a nifty little machine.

You`ll definitely be needing a NTSC compatible TV if you`re looking to play region 1 discs. As mentioned above, most modern TV`s nowadays can handle NTSC, if yours can`t.

There are loads of cheap `hackable` dvd players out there for under 100 quid. You can`t really go wrong these days. Try Richer Sounds if you have one nearby.

As for your TV. If it`s not ancient and at least no less than 3 years old, you should have no problem playing back NTSC. Then again....if you like the quality of DVD`s you`re gonna want to get a Widescreen TV plus surround sound, or maybe a plasma screen within a dedicated `cinema room` and then expensive chairs to relax in.....ooooooohhhhh!!!

Sorry getting carried away a bit there. ;)

If you suspect your tv may not be NTSC compatible(and check it out first) then there are any number of cheap budget supermarket models(and some better ones too) that will allow full conversion of NTSC into PAL 50 for playback on ANY set. What make is your tv,and how old is it?
