Hardware Forum
I have tried every permutation (I think) regarding the front inputs and still cant get the dvd recorder to pick up my vcr. I bought it to archive off my old tapes butto date no joy. I have 3 types of scart adaptors one that includes s-video and one without and neither of them work. So I plug the red white and red connectors into the adaptor plugged into the scart connection at the back of the vcr and the other end into front of the E55 did the same with the s-video, it does not seem to work. Anyone know what I am doing wrong - thanks in advance?
RE: Panny E55 Recording from VHS
Hello
I`ve made lots of VHS to E55 recordings using the scarts at the back of the E55 - ie. scart OUT from the VHS to scart IN on the Panasonic. I use a simple scart lead. I haven`t used the front AVs yet so I don`t know how they work.
If you`re using the E55`s AV2 input, have you checked that the settings are correct? Go to the setup menu, then go to "connection", then go to "AV2 Input". It gives you a choice between "Video", S-Video and RGB. Playing around with these might produce something.
Good luck
Heath
You have to tell the machine what to expect at each input (AV1, AV2 etc). Forget about RGB with a video as it doesn`t output this signal or S-Video. Only use the setting for basic video (sometimes called composite video) as that`s what your VHS machine is outputting. If your using the front connector AV3 then get a lead with a scart socket (for the video) at one end and three connectors (called RCA connectors) red, white and yellow at the other. Put these in the same colour sockets in the E55 and you should be fine.
I record from a DV tape video camera onto the E55 all the time as well.
Same principle as a VHS.
Plug the coloured leads into the wee panel at the front, set the E55 to `AV3` and hey presto.
Piece of proverbial. :)
Thanks guys but i have tried all your suggestions but still have not managed to get the e55 to pick up the the video output via the front panel av3 connection. As i said before I have a scart socket which connects to the red white and yellow cables which goes into the back of the vcr then the other cables to the front of the e55 - what am i doing wrong as there is no option to switch av3 from rgb to video?

As someone has already said you can`t connect a normal video recorder to the S-video socket on the front ( unless it is an S-VHS VCR)
The easiest way is to use a normal SCART cable and connect it to the OUTPUT scart on the VCR and then connect the other end to the spare SCART input socket on the recorder. Then press play on the VCR and then switch the channel between AV!/AV2/AV3 and see if you get a picture?
If you get a picture you can just press record. If not e-mail me.
MicoMan thanks for the reply but I have tried it without the s-video connection and used the red white and red connections with the scart plug connector as said before without any joy. I have tried it with a scart to scart connection at the back of the e55 and it works but a little grainy. This is ok but I would prefer to connect to the av3 in in the front of the e55 as this is more convenient - surely it must be possible - I would be grateful to hear from anyone who connects their vcr to the e55 this way in order to transfer their old tapes to dvd. Am I missing a trick?
I`m getting confused here..
Can we start again ?
What type of connection have you tried ?
Scart from the TV connection on the video, to 3 pin plug into the AV3 socket of the E50 ?
That should work perfectly well.
Press play on the VHS,make sure the E50 is set to `AV3` on the display and press record.
No problem at all.
Scart plug (connected to 3 pin) from rear of the vcr to front av3 socket of e55. When the vcr is playing it is not picked up by the e55 therefore I am unable to record. So bowfer any other suggestions?
VCR output Scart to AV2 input on the E55 .Thats all it is.Changing the "connections" to VIDEO for Av2 is a necessity. If you still get nothing the Scart lead may not be fully wired.
The front connection does not need to be switched from RGB.You either use the svideo input(for svhs only) or the phono input which is VIDEO only anyway.
Try using another Scart socket from your vhs player if all else fails
