How do other budget players compare to the MiCO?

Carrot Cruncher (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 3rd March 2001, 15:54

I`m back looking for a budget player that will do everything.

i.e. MP3/VCD/SVCD/XVCD/X(S)VCD/CDRW/CDR/MiniDVD circa £200
All the other gizmos like DD5.1/DTS/SVHS arent required.

I have sent my second MiCO back for SCRATCHING discs!
UNFORGIVABLE

Oooohhhh. Concentric circles. How pretty :-(

My first MiCO went back as it would not read CDRW.
But both have suffered from washing machine spin cycle problems.
Briley`s too! (Sorry mate, but I have left the fold)

No Micoshrine 3 - Thats for f*cking sure!

Rustypuke: NO LAUGHING! The 505 is not an option. That also goes for the Yelo 800.

Also NO to Himage. Its an UGLY brute.

Suggestions? Cheaper the better!

Hi Carrot

Sorry to hear about your probs with the Mico. I decided to hang fire with the Mico and Scan and see if anything else came along in the meantime.

Speaking of which, have you come across the Labway X-wave LB1000? It can play SVCDs but I don`t know about XVCD etc. They sell them here:

http://www.business-ecommercesoftware.co.uk/business/svpcomm/Online_Catalogue_DVD_and_MP3_Players_8.html

£220 seems expensive but it does look like a nice piece of gear.

Whaddya think?

Cheers

Carrot I would check out the story about Encore Direct`s demise here http://website.lineone.net/~clayton.hayward/Whatsnew.htm before considering the DV450.

I was actually thinking about one myself but this put me off.

VICTORY IS MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I told you all the Mico Crunched DVD`s as I had one.

and carrot kept bullshitting you all, but then I always said the mico does it all just not very well.

"Rustypuke: NO LAUGHING! The 505 is not an option. That also goes for the Yelo 800."

Sorry carrot I might not have been so smug if you hadnt insulted me...........
C*CK CRUNCHING MONKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldnt get an encore 450 which has suffered with problem discs in the past, now there is no support to fix the firmware if their are any new ones.

"No Micoshrine 3 - Thats for f*cking sure!"

damn......the one thing I like about your s***es was the fact that they made mine look professional.........

Join the syndicate old son, it is your destiny............

The bear picks himself up off the floor, so the rumours that the Mico was the finest drinks coaster maker were true! ...shame on you carrot.

Can the carrot cruncher exist without a Mico, surely not! will the web site die?

Encore and soon to follow Mico! The porn world will never be the same again!

A new customer for nelly?

May the ironduke show you mercy!

Now what was it you said about Roger whiticker........

Thanx guys.

I`m just about as fed up as one gets. I wish I`d never heard of DVD. Jesus Christ I`m p*ssed off.

Been looking at the Shinco DVD 868 - DVD/VCD/SVCD/MP3/CD/CDR/Mega Drive/Genesis Player !!! £233.80

http://www.lik-sang.com/msie.php3?dest=uk&lang=en&curr1=usd&curr2=gbp&country=uk&ref=&session=236519eb6e60241020a85bb75f9ddabd
http://www.lik-sang.com/mf/868.htm - NICE SPECS and supposedly the new model plays 99% of all known CDRW brands.
http://home.clara.net/laserdisc/shinco_dvd/shinco_dvd-868/shinco_dvd-868.htm

If I can get one for £200, I might consider it. I dont play games as a rule but there is plently of bootleg stuff on the net and it beats Tetris on that Revox.

Jezebabe: I`ve read quite a bit about the Labway X-wave LB900/1000 at Bignan`s http://members.boardhost.com/bignandvd/ and not all good. Loader problems! Thats something I`ve had enough off.
Encore450 has been so derided by the Duchess and others that I didnt want to tempt fate twice.
Interesting to see the cheapo players at http://www.second-spin.com
I think all those machines are potential trouble. I have a nose for detecting sh*t now.
If I can get most of what I need (I`m thinking along the lines of a Medion from Aldi) I`d rather go for a dead cheap machine that`ll do the job.

Of course, I might just go for a third MiCO (yes - Micoshrine 3 may be a possibility after all), but I feel the loader(s) are not to blame for the MiCO`s demise.
Briley has a different loader to me and he gets the same occassional spin up problems.
The firmware is probably the cause. As there are no updates, perhaps other Mico owners should think about returning theirs!

Duchess: When you say your MiCO `crunched` discs, what exactly did you mean?
Does it make a `crunching` sound? Mine sounds like the motor is stalled for a second - a much louder, deeper grinding tone than normal usage. I guess one could call it a crunching sound.

Sound familiar?

LG3350 looks a good bet as they have a solid UK base and provide firmware updates when problem discs come out.
Availabilty? All the good players have sold out it seems.

I might even get a cheap Apex from the States.

Still looking for suggestions under £200

I`m about to order some computer parts from Scan. I wonder if I should...

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Maybe 2010 when thyve finally sorted out their firmware problems.

Well here is one of Briley`s emails:

Hi

Hope you had a good Christmas. Did you get my e-mails? Not had any reply`s recently?

I have had a couple of problems with the Mico.

I have not used it for a couple of weeks and had just received some replacement RW discs from Pine. I put some Mp3`s on one which played fine on the Mico, BUT when it got to the end of the last track the drive started spinning very fast as if it was trying to find the next track? It also did the same with another Mp3 CD I did some time ago? Not with an audio CD on a RW.

Also on loading a DVD the drive was making a hell of a noise until I pressed play? I loaded a few more DVD`s and it seems to have quietened down now.

How`s your working? I also noticed from one of your posts in a forum that a few things are different in the menu on my Mico.

DVD-ROM:RAITE
MOD:RAITE RDR-202H
REV:1*9

IS THIS GOOD OR A BAD SIGN?

Briley

Arnt I a stinker?

It seems his loader also does the f*cking same. QED MiCO firmware FAULTY.

Sorry if you read this Briley but I think others should now know.

Ironduke: Do you remember what loader was in your MiCO?
Hitachi/DVD/Raite or another maybe?

Carrot Cruncher - MiCO is a TOASTER!!! (But I still might buy another!)

Carrot I never had it long enough to get all technical with it.

Although I do have one Idea that might be the problem!

We all know that you and Brilley watch copious amounts of porn is it possible that the mico`s optical reader has gone blind under the strain?

at the end of the day carrot how are you going to get a mico with the right loader if it is the loader?

Carrot Cruncher - MiCO is a TOASTER!!!
I have been saying this all along........do you think we shall see brilley on these forums again?
It`s amazing what comes out at the end isnt it!

get a different player.........now if you will excuse me I am busy reprogramming the 505`s firmware for macrovison disable with a few chaps.
