vitascope1 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 11th February 2004, 18:47

Hi
I have a Panasonic E50 recorder and have been recording on Panasonic DVD-R disc`s
which are excellent and play on our other players upstairs the matsui 125 and 225 models.

Do all DVD-R disc`s play on all DVD players,I have just brought some cheaper Memorex 25 for £18 from play.com.

Do you know if memorex DVD-R compatable with all DVD players.

cheers

I`m running a brand new NEC 2500 8x writer and have used about 22 Datawrite Classic Yellow 4x and so far no problems whatsoever.

Play on my Tosh 330e and a Daewoo 6000D no problems.

Bought discs here - http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=51178

This is the DVD Writer here :- http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=56658

Can`t fault either product at all.

Granted, I`m using dvd+, but i`ve had no problems playing my discs on any stand alone dvd player, as long as I only burn with Nero. Other burning softwear such as the bundled one with Tmpgenc dvd author just makes costers for my players. But not a hitch with Nero.

As to cheapo disc`s. i use the cheapest i can get (around £14 for 25 from Big Pockets) and have no prolems as long as i limit their size to around 4.20gb. It has something to do with the unstable ink spread on the cheap one`s, you get ridges and/or not enough ink spread to the outer edge.

I`ve also gotten around to checking is these discs will play in the ps2 and they do. both the authored discs i`ve made and the copys.

those horrid red datawrites ogster was on about are back and spot on now

the ones i was on about are the original 4x (one of the first to apear at that speed) and as i said most brand`s are ok these days, as stated above the datawrite yellow`s are excellent and if you live near manchester (bowlers) you can get 25 ritek overprints for 14quid and these are the best i`ve yet to use (never had a failure) be carefull of the bulkpaq`s as they can be hit and miss, i used to use them all the time (about 150 a month) with no probs, then all of a sudden i had 20 + failures from different spindles, so i don`t think there quality controll is upto much.
