Hi Royd

Yeah, I bought this player. It`s pretty good - very neat, although it doesn`t have display, which means you rely on the On-screen display for chapters etc. It plays R1 DVDs and Audio CDs no problem - I haven`t tried MP3, VCD etc. yet, but I`m told it supports them fine.

Check the video outputs are compatible with your TV. It`s S-Video only, so your TV will need an S-video input, or a scart that supports S-video (on my Hitachi, scart 1 doesn`t support S-video). For audio, it has a mixed stereo pair output, or co-ax digital output. Supports DD5.1 and DTS - both excellent.

The only disadvantage with mine is that it`s a bit noisy once it`s been running for a while (30mins -> 1hr). I don`t know if that`s because it`s a budget player, or because I have a faulty one. I`ve only had it a week, so I`m going to take it back to Richer Sounds and swap it, just in case.

Hope that helps!

Shaun

Shaun / Royd

It plays DVD/VCD/MP3/CDR/CDRW/SVCD

I have tried all the above barring SVCD (anyone got any?)

Has no prob`s with all the above but does not like playing one of my vcd`s which has been burnt on Verbatim media ???

It`s also Macro Free

You get what you pay for

I`d say it`s good for the money

Svcd does work.
I have been very impressed with this , in my opinion better than most of the £300+ players.
Apparently a whole shipment of the himage 2290s for richer sounds were water damaged during transport, it can cause the dvd to skip and the player to make alot of noise(i have had five players (but my player works now). The picture is better than the scan-2000. but the best thing about the player is its looks, it is about quarter of the size of most other players.

Hi,

I`m very interested in this player, does anyone have any screenshots of it up close, the remote or any of the on-screen menus?

Also whats the mp3/audio cd playback quality and menu navigation like?

Thanks,

- CodeWarrior.

It outputs pal 50 , pal 60, and ntsc.
to connect it to a scart you could just buy a 3phono-scart cable from richer sounds or somewhere like maplin.

For a picture go to http://www.himage.com/hongkong/images/2290b.jpg

it looks alot bigger than it is in the picture. just look at the measurements in the corner of the picture.

The remote is not exactly brilliant, but you do get used to it.
The mp3 playback is fine and so is the cd playback.

Hay Boris or anyone else,

Can you tell me if the Himage will play RCE protected DVDs because from what Ive seen it`s an all region player but you can`t select a specific region meaning that it won`t play RCE protected DVDs.

Anyone know?
