Aiwa370 and SVCD

gforce (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 12th February 2001, 02:06

Can anybody tell me for sure if there is anyway to get the 370 to play svcd`s since there are loads of films "on line " .
Is anybody working on a hack or should i just forget about SVCD`s and play the poorer vcd`s.

ps

No slagging please - this is a great forum and we don`t need the pages and pages full of spite - we just want good reliable info on all aspects of DVD`s /hacks /bargains /reviews etc etc. :o))
Time for a TRUCE

Currently there is no way :-( Only totally compliant VCDs. I really wish there was too, as I am considering selling mine to get a machine that supports SVCD, not to mention XVCD and X(S)VCD.

Jeze, you`ll never be happy until you can play the whole spectrum! lol

Anyways, no, at present the Aiwa CANNOT play Svcd, however, this is using a test file I found online of "Chicken Run", and I may have burned it incorrectly (but don`t think so).

Theres reference in the LG service manual to an Svcd capable ATMEL chip, but until I get my programmer, I ain`t taking a change on a chip change.
However, SVCD can be converted to VCD quite easily, and with a minimum loss of quality according to me mate..

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!

Rest assured I have produced VCDs, SVCDs, and even an XVCD and X(S)VCD.

They all play fine on the PC with WinDVD etc but only the plain vanilla VCD plays on the Aiwa. Even VCDs which are only a slight variation from the norm (norm = 1150 Kbps video and 224Kbps audio) play with jerky picture and sound :-(

Duke, I initially tried Easy CD Creator Deluxe 4.03 but got the same results with the VCDHelper Chicken Run SVCD Nero image using Nero 5.0.3.8 :-( For SVCD I also tried both the MPEG2 and MPEGAV folder options just in case.

I`ve created lots of VCDs with Nero that play smoothly on the Aiwa.
