Page 1 of Dvd Recorders?

Ok the kids want a dvd recorder for xmas

Ive looked at several including the cheap ones and the more expensive ones with hd`s etc.

Roughly got £1,000 to spend on either 1 real good one or 2 cheaper ones.

Now is there a web site that compares them? ie connections , facilities etc

(im sure i came across one a few weeks back and lost the site address - it included the Mico from Sainsbury`s , The Toshiba with Hd and other`s etc).

In my day we made do with an Action Man and a satsuma for Christmas.

For £1000,you can almost get 2 Panasonic HS2`s.This is the best combo of HDD and DVDR.Other makes are available,but the competition has no RGB connection-a must for Sky Digital.The HS2 is £549.You could still get another superb machine,like a Pioneer 656(not 565) and get DVD-Audio as well as SACD playback.With these 2 you will have the best in dvd recording and playback.I know-I have them

You can get 2 Panasonic E 50s for £500. Use a RAM disk in one to record day to day programmes or films with advert sections then edit out what you don`t want on the RAM and transfer to the second machone using dvd-r for your archives. You can get the missus someting nice with the other £500.

I will compare the recorders mentioned here, i like panasonic ive had good stuff from them in the past so will be looking at them more etc.

If you can afford a model with HDD,its a bit silly not to buy one.A standard dvd recorder is seriously limited when it comes to large scale quality recording.On any dvdr format you are restricted to only 1 hour at peak quality,2 at broadcast quality.With the HS2 you can put 9 hours on HDD at peak quality or over 17 hours at SP.Sod the missus,get your priorities right(;)
