Subsonic button on my Sony TA-AX3 amp - what`s it for??

My amp is a classic Sony TA-AX3 amp, and there`s two buttons marked Loudness and Subsonic. I know Loudness is a sort of `bass boost`, but does anyone know what the Subsonic one does??

When I press it, nothing happens to the sound. I use the amp with a pair of Kef Cresta 1 speakers which go down to 50Hz.
