What Kit would you recommend for my bedroom????

Neiliboy (Elite) posted this on Friday, 11th April 2003, 11:42

Hi all,

Im thinking of getting an `all in one` jobby for my bedroom - I currently have a naff 14" Matsui portable but i now want to start watching DVD`s on it.

I have seen the Pioneer DCS 100 for about £250 which will be my budget

My requirements are:

FM Radio
DVD Multi Region
Small Speakers
Midnight viewing mode (so as not to wake the Missus up)
Good CD playback for normal CD`s
Digital Inputs (for my minidisc player)

Your help and Reccomemnds will be appreciated.

How about this

X-Box - now reduced to £125
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005RHQT/qid=1050071090/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_3_1/202-6010885-7023827?tag=myrev09-21

DVD playback kit £18
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005RKPK/ref=er_ra_acc_dp_1/202-6010885-7023827?tag=myrev09-21

Sound Station Dolby Digital 5.1 audio system (includes input for your minidisk) £150
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000077W0Q/ref=pd_sxp_f/202-6010885-7023827?tag=myrev09-21

X-Box Optical/S-video/Scart Lead £13
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006FRKU/qid=1050070885/sr=2-3/ref=sr_2_3_3/202-6010885-7023827?tag=myrev09-21

Or the official advanced scart £18
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005TRYX/ref=pd_sxp_elt_l2/202-6010885-7023827?tag=myrev09-21

And then Pre-Order Region X for £18
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000063S36/qid=1050070963/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2_2/202-6010885-7023827?tag=myrev09-21

Comes to £324, I know it`s more than you wanted to pay, but you get a good quality multiregion dvd player (eventualy) superb 5.1 sound as loud or as quiet as the other half will allow, plus an amazing games console chucked in to the bargain.

And what`s better, you don`t have to buy it all straight away, just order a bit at a time as and when you need it.

No radio though, but who wants a radio when you could be gaming away on Tony Hawks 4 or Halo.

I`m convinced, think I`ll order one for myself!!!

Happy spending

Ger.

Sound Advice Gerald (Geddit??)

mmmmm......well i have an x-box already and the relevant leads, but i have all that connected to my main system downstairs - so i dont really fancy hauling the X box up and downstairs everytime i watch a dvd........

RE: The dvd playback kit, HMV are doing 1 Game + 1 peripheral for £30 which im thinking of getting.

Anyway cheers for that advice but i dont think i`ll following that one up - and its over my budget!!!

Hi Nelliboy No answers I`m afraid but need to ask you a question. What is "midnight viewing mode"? I get the idea but how does it work. Surely it doesn`t mean plugging headphones in?

"midnight mode" or the like.

It`s late, you are watching a quite atmospheric film. You have the volume up so you can hear it. BANG/BOOM. A loud bit so you turn it down. Now you can not hear the quiet bits and your other half is moaning about the BANG/BOOM that has just woke her.

"Midnight mode" ups the volume on the quiet bits and downs it on the loud ones= happy other half.

I must admit I don`t see Neiliboys problem as his missus told me he never usually wakes her when he does other stuff;-)

All the best,

The 42%er.
