Should I buy a Wharfedale 750(s)?

AVESTA85 (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 26th December 2000, 21:14

I am fairly new to the world of DVD and am looking for a player in the sub-£200 range that can be set to multi-region.
At the moment I am very tempted by the W750s as I`ve heard many good things about it but am still slightly unsure:
Any help would be much appreciated,
Thanks

"No."? With a sweeping statement like that I do hope you own or have owned one.

I own one. (one of the Second gen 750S machines) and for under £200 can`t really fault it.

Sure it has some minor niggles, but for under £200 what do you expect?

It has yet failed to play a movie for me, the picture and sound are perfectly acceptable, in fact, I keep being amazed how crisp and clear it is.

The only faults I`ve found can be worked around with ease (like stopping and resuming the playback).

Yes there are better players on the market, but most of them are twice the price.

Sure I`d love a Sony 735 - but not for £500 I wouldn`t!

I know someone with one of these and although it does the job <200 quid can get you a much better player. I work for a huge electrical chain and have seen more than enough returns with this machine.

735 and 736 with full mod for 385 delivered.

AIWA 370 Destroys this statement!

I dont work for any Electrical chain funboy!

It`s simple math

AIWA = LG3350 CLONE = C-CUBE 4.1 CHIPSET
WHARFDALE(S) = C-CUBE 3 CHIPSET

AIWA has more features and wins hands down.

I thankyou!

Yes.

750S is a great little player. Plays all my R1 discs with no problems. As for features it has all you need to play a disc. How many times do you need all the fancy stuff (window dressing).

Michael.
