ENCORE 450 its pants then yes ?

Movie-Lover (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 23rd December 2000, 12:26

I guess I should have bought a Toshiba sd 100 e.

O.K. the encore has lots of features which is why I got it, but I would
give them all up for a cracking picture.

Have to admit movie-man it does sound like you`ve got a ringer there, bud.

Check your firmware (12345 on the remote) - is it 3.3 ?

Well, it definitely isn`t the telly then, mate !

I`m stunned - I know some people have had a few piccy problems but not with the regularity that you`re getting. Are Encore hopeful the new firmware (presumably the one they`re developing to cope with Sleepy Hollow, etc) will get rid of the pulsing ?

ESS Chipset!

Goto Home Cinema Choice Online and read the hardware new`s.

Your picture overall looks pretty good, but there are times when artifacts show the face such as in dark areas or on plain wall etc.

DONT BUY AN ESS CHIPSET PLAYER IF YOU WANT GREAT VIDEO!
On the other hand at around 150 with all it`s features, and it`s picture is better then VHS the Encore is respectable, but players like the AIWA dont suffer this picture problem as the use a different chipset.

Mark and Mike at encore tech support have been great and have said to hang on for the update, pity it is taking so long.

If the update does not work then they said they would look after me.

I can only imagine what that means.

If I knew about the ESS chipset problem I never would have bought
the Encore.

Like an old man once said to me, only buy top name brands when it comes to A/V products. looks like he was right.

Well, Aiwa is not a `top name brand`. It is what is known in marketing circles as a `fighter brand`. Aiwa was set up by Sony as their wholly-owned downmarket brand to `fight-off` the competition (mainly Korean). Most of Aiwa`s products are manufactured off-shore in either Korea, China or Malaysia; many of them are re-badged third-party products. According to a recent Which? magazine survey Aiwa products were much less satisfactory than average and are one of the least reliable AV brands.

Yes MicroStar, but the aiwa is an LG clone. And its obvious LG have put a lot of time and testing into the 3350.

Imagine if some unknowns managed to get a licence to clone the Sony 9000(no chance). It would still get great reviews.
