Bloody M5 Wharfedale won`t work

anakin (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 12th December 2002, 12:13

I have a M5 Wharfedale dvd palyer as well as a Sony 725 and PS2. I have a Sherwood amp and yamaha speakers which works a dream with both of my Sony players but not with the Wharfedale. It works with analogue cables but not with a digital line(optical and coaxial) i have set the settings on the player for a digital output but it won`t read on the amp so i`m stuck with pro logic on the amp for the player which sucks. Any suggestions please rather than going to Richersounds.

if the settings are correct then it sounds like your player is knackered.
Out of interest why are you using a wharfedale if you have a sony 725?

It plays all RCE titles while the Sony 725 doesn`t. I bought Memento R1 special edtion which is RCE according to Play and DVD Concept which works on the Sony but Spiderman R1 RCE doesn`t so i used the Wharfedale for other titles but hence the problem. Going to get the Sony 905 but just curious why the Wharfedale isn`t working even though the player is quite s***, it what you call a mum`s choice, never trust an oldie with a dvd player, asked her to get rid of it and get a cheap Sony 405, or 705.

Has it ever worked or is it only now that you are trying it? And can you select which region you want on your sony? cos if you can select region 1 then it should bypass the rce!

You don`t say whether you`re hooked up to your receiver via coaxial or optical digital, not that it really makes a great deal of difference.

You do need to ensure that if using the DIGITAL option for AUDIO output that you ensure the DTS and AC3 (old name for Dolby Digital) options (in the Digital Audio out menu) are both set to BITSTREAM :

The other thing is it may be that the Sherwood doesn`t automatically detect an incoming bitstream signal from your M5, so you may have to instruct the receiver to flip over to DD or dts.

See the article at Area 450 on player setup menus :
