WIDESCREEN TV - Sony OR LG????

peteh (Competent) posted this on Friday, 6th December 2002, 22:04

I`m looking to buy a 28" TV and have two options, Sony`s KV28LS35 at £556 + free Sony video, or the LG Super Flat (see Bargain Bucket Forum) for £270. I already have a cinema surround sound system (Sony HTK 215) so sound is not an issue, but picture quality is. The Sony set seems to have a superb picture but I`ve visited all of the high street stores and can`t see the LG anywhere, thus can`t judge what the picture is like.
Do I go for the LG (bit of an unknown quantity) save myself £286 and maybe get a digital camera! or plumb for the Sony good quality, good picture etc.

PLEASE HELP!!! I`m looking to buy next week.

Pete - go for the LG from hienergyshop.co.uk - the 32" is only £399 (gone up £20 recently) so you`re still ahead of the Sony - I`ve had mine nearly 2 months and along with my existing DD separates the picture and sound are excellent.

Definitely recommend it.

julianf - thanks for the advice, I`ve also recently been told that LG are part of the Phillips group, so I`m quite pleased about that. Also, which ever TV I plumb for it has to be 28" as a 32" will dwarf my living room.

Oh, and one last thing! What does it look like? as the missus (like they do) says that it must look nice!

Cheers

32" sets dont usually look a great deal bigger than a 28"

LG make nice looking kit but so do sony

One thing i hate about sony TV`s is that they have no good screen format for viewing 4:3 pictures, the superzoom looses to much, LG`s zoom seems to look much better

Another thing, what if something goes wrong with the set? Do I have to pay £60 carriage to get it to the hienergyshop.co.uk or is it free?

I must admit I`m being swayed towards the LG. Any more advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My living room isn`t that big and although at first the LG 32" set does look massive it soon settles into the room...

It`s quite deep and you need two people to lift it. It has a flat top unlike the Philips I looked at so my center speaker is nice and safe on top.

I agree with the comment about the nice auto-switching on the LG from 16:9 to 4:3 - still getting used to the stupid format the BBC use for sport though.

I`m chuffed to bits with it.

Just bought myself the 32" beast and it will be delivered next Monday, can`t wait!!!!!!
Many thanks to all of those who offered the advise, it was a great help.
Just looking forward to watching all my DVD`s in 32" of pure flat screen with 5.1 DD on. FANTASTIC!!

Is the LG totally flat or is there a slight curve?

If it`s the same technology as their really nice Flatron monitors (one of which I have) it will be as flat as a flat thing.
