Calling Nelley and other Scan users..

ChrisJP2 (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 11th December 2000, 09:04

Nelley etc
Ok, here goes...
I got the Matrix over the weekend and noticed a strong pulsing and pixelation of the background. I currently have firmware version 146.
I have a few questions for you..
1.Will a firmware upgrade solve this problem
2.If not, will you replace my player with one that works..
3.Will you PLEASE honour you word and send me the correct new firmware version as you promised last week (after a said some nice things about your players).

If any one else can supply me with the upgrade I need I would VERY much apreciate it..

at the risk of receiving loads of crap, my address is
77pj_sirhc[at]moc.liamtoh

Please make a miserable sod happy..

PS Hands up if you think it would be a good idea to have the firmware available to download from the SCAN web site..

is you dvd going through your video?
can you disable macrovision - if so, have you?

I had lots of pulsing, until I upgraded to a firmware that allowed me to disable macro. (yep, i have a pony TV, so it goes through the video)

Hi,

I got my scan in November and bought The Matrix at the same time, I know what mean when you talk about brightness pulsing and pixelation during the movie.

I upgraded from v164 to v192 suspecting macrovision, v192 with macrovision disabled certainly helps but now suspect that The Matrix itself is partly to blame, reason being, The Gladiator movie picture quality is stunning and if you turn on Display Info and check the Bit Rate Meter it is normally a lot higher during dark scenes than on The Matrix.

I’m not a techi, but I’m assuming higher Bit Rate is equal to …more picture info…better quality.

I’m sure someone will clarify

Can confirm that the Matrix DVD is largely the problem here. Watched on a Pioneer player about 10 days ago and the pulsing was clearly visible.

Can anyone confirm that playing R1 on Scan generally gives problems ? I have got R1 Fight Club and it play very badly, jerky and blocky.

I have got Region 1 Mission Impossible2 and the quality is superb on my SC2000 from the December batch.

I also thought that I had a problem with pulsating backgrounds on my Scan. This was particularly noticable on Contact (lots of dark skies) and one or two others I tried. However, not all discs suffered with this problem.

So, tonight I had the chance to try Contact on a PC based Pioneer DVD drive and it had exactly the same `problem` as the Scan.

I`ll now cancel my New Year `drop and pick` as, mine at least, seems to do exactly what it says on the tin:-) (famous last words)
