MAXIM MX11-41 DVD - Hack needed to be region free

Hedge (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 2nd August 2004, 19:55

I have recently bought the MX11-41 from WH Smiths and need the hack to enable it to play Region 1 discs. Can anyone advise? I have checked the hack for the MX11-21 but the menus are different!?

Thanks :)

Hello Hedge

Before I answer the region hack question I just have to write a small review on this player. I brought the MX11-4 from WH Smiths today as well and what a fantastic bargain it was for only £39 - I wanted a small DVD for the portable in the bedroom and was lucking enough to get one of the last 2 in the store, the spec for the money has to be beleived. The unit has Optical and Coax digital outputs, progessive scan, Plays HDCD, MP3, CD-R, CD-RW, WMA AND Jpeg picture discs, it also doubles as a Karaoke machine with 2 mic inputs ! I have tried discs with both WMA`s and Jpegs and they play fine (Bit slow between pictures but thats being picky), the album and song selection is very straight forward. The Unit I also find very quite in operation and the picture quality seems fine on a 14" portable, I have yet to try it on my 28" widescreen but cannot see a reason for it not being OK, the remote control is also very nice, easy to hold not to big and not to small and the buttons are well laid out and straight forward.

Now the burning Region Hack question - I`ve hunted High and low but can`t find one so I just popped a Region 1 disc in the player and low and behold it played no problems at all, I have also tried a second Region 1 disc and no trouble with that either. So Multi Region straight out of the box ! Just give it a go.

Anybody reading this and thinking of buying one, then don`t hesitate just get it, what a bargain, and I say this having 2 other players a Pioneer and a Philips DVD Recorder.

:) :) :)

THE MAXIM 11-21 SHOULD ALREADY BE MULTI-REGION BUT IF NOT JUST PRESS OPEN TRAY THEN KEY IN 9735 AND SELECT 0 ON THE MENU THAT APPREARS

I got this player "Maxim MX11-41" from WHSmith, Great Yarmouth for £19:99.

I only just got it home, & I was looking for a something to play any region on it, but then The box says it Region 2 player, but I done whaat was said & try my only Region 3 DVD I had - The Rundown (called Welcome to The Jungle in the UK), it worked :D
Then i put a another DVD, this time Region 1 - They & it worked again.

Great for just £19:99.

Hi to all interested! I am looking at getting this machine myself and my research so far is that it is Region-free out of the box even when it says it is Region 2 on the side (ref: I can`t remember where I read this because I`ve been looking at so many sites - sorry! :( ). One thing I can`t find apart from the little review earlier in this thread, is a review of either the model or the manufacturer. Can anyone comment on quality of image once you go above portable TV size? Has anyone projected from it? Any comments or links appreciated.

By the way, it`s currently about £27 at Dixons/Currys, which is the cheapest I could find - anyone know better?

Cheers!
David ;)
