Page 1 of Alba 108Xi....NOT Multiregion!!!!!!!

Anybody planning on buying the £70 Alba machine from Argos beware!!! I brought one on Saturday. It had Xi after the 108 on the box. THIS PLAYER IS NOT MULTIREGION, NOR DO ANY OF THE ALBA HACKS WORK TO MAKE IT MULTIREGION.

Unless of course, somebody knows different.....;)

OK, having spoken to alba customer services and got the "we don`t sell multiregion players" spiel, I am now worried. The guy said that the "Xi" means nothing and that it is a billy bog standard 108. However, everybody here says 108`s are MR from the box, and indeed a friend of mine has one that is MR (out of the box) I brought it from Argos, it is cosmeticaly different from the one in the catalogue and DOES have an s video socket - something that the sales woman in Argos went to great pains to tell me it didn`t have.

The 2,2,1,8 code dosen`t work either. The version number is 36.2.0. Could this have something to do with it.

Any help whatsoever would be appreciated...

Brian, you said that you tried code 2,2,1,8 - snafu (see post below) said the code is 2,8,1,2. Did you use the correct code?

I`m sure I did. But I was a little flustered so I`ll give it a go a little later.

Anyone get this to be Multi Region yet? I bought a 108 originally and it was multi region out the box. Bought another today and it looks totally different - it`s a 108xi and does NOT play multi region discs.

Looks like it`s going back if it can`t be hacked!!!

Don`t panic. Try the open tray, 2812 hack. If it works fine. If not take it back and say it doesn`t play your discs.

Yeah cheers snafu tried that - it doesn`t work. Looks like it`s going back then.

A last shot. Try open tray, press setup, press 2812 and see if a hidden menu comes up.

Cheers for the info snafu - I`ve taken it back (asked for the 108 or the 114 but the sales people never had a scooby!!!)

Anyway went into Asda and bought the Pacific 1002 - that hacked no problems.

I thought it was supposed to be exactly the same as the 108. Now you are saying it looks different. Please describe it in a little more detail, particularly size. I was told by Alba that it was almost the same apart from being silver & no display. If you can find a link to a picture, please include. I wonder does it even come from same manufacturer, possibly it is a different Mico model. Take a look at the MicoElectric website as they have a few newer models there now
