Wharfedale 750s(Early Model) and the X-Men region 1 DVD

FantaC (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 2nd December 2000, 21:00

Hi all,

I would like to know if other people are having the same problem playing the X-Men DVD. It doesn`t play properly, as if it can`t read the DVD. It jerks while in the menu, playing the film and also in the special features. It is so bad that it is unwatchable.

I have just got X-Men from Play247 and get the same problems on a newly purchased 750S (NOV 2000). This is my first R1 disk so I am a bit disappointed, is X-Men going to be another `problem disk` like The Matrix, and will I be able to play other R1 disks on my Wharfedale? as I will need to exchange X-Men for something else. Do you know if Toy Story 1 & 2 R1 plays OK or not?.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your reply, it`s good to know that I`m not the only one having this problem, but not good for the fact that it won`t play as it is an OK film. The answer to your first question is that YES you can play other R1 discs on the player, I`ve only ever had a problem with that particular disc.

I`m am going to wait until the R2 version is available and then rent it from Blockbuster or somewhere to see how that plays. If the same problem occurs then I can contact Wharfedale somehow to see if they know about the problem as they won`t tell me anything if I say that I`m playing an R1 disc(as it is only supposed to be R2!)

I do know that the disc works fine, because my brother has the Philips 710 and it works absolutely fine apart from taking a little while to access the disc properly.

The answer to your other question is that YES, both Toy Story 1 & 2 work just fine with no problems at all. I have the 2-disc set with both of them and it only cost me £17.99, now that`s what I call value for money!

I have the early 750s and X-men plays ok. My brother in-law has the later model which also plays ok. No to sure what the problem could be. Toy Story (R1) 3 Discs set also works fine on both players. No problem with Gladiator (R1) 2 Disc set either.

Michael.

Have you checked your players settings. Is it set to PAL60, PAL60R or Auto. When I had my 750S for the first time the picture jumped all through the menus and start of film. I checked the settings and found it was set to PAL. You have to stop the disc a press the TV System button on your remote then start playing the disc again. Player will keep your adjustment.
