Wharfedale 750 & Gladiator R2

Robin Adamson (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 28th November 2000, 11:18

I have the original 750 player. I have the multi region code in place and have had no problems with my player apart from R2 Jaws. However just bought R2 Gladiator and the Special Features Disc does not work!
Has anyone experienced this problem and if so how did you overcome this problem?
Also has anyone had their machine upgraded with the special chip from Tesco- if so any problems? Were you still able to play R1 discs?

Thanks
Robin Adamson

There appears to be a known problem with that disc and players that use the LSI chipset.

This includes the 750 (not the 750S though), Grundig 210/210A and a few others.

It`s either find an exchange and get a 750S or wait for a firmware update I`m afraid.

I had my original 750 upgraded [ chip replacement ] & am happy to say it still plays R1 discs + it fixes the missing cursor on menus like : scene selection in The Matrix, problems with Jaws disc... I have Gladiator R2 but haven`t tried the extras yet... If the Gladiator disc 2 problem is a menu selection one .. then I suspect this chip upgrade will fix it.
