Redirecting mobiles to mobile.myreviewer now?

sj (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 8th January 2013, 20:12

Went to a bookmark on the phone today to dvdreviewer.co.uk/forums - but it redirected me to the mobile version of myreviewer instead - mobile.myreviewer.com/forums .  Blue. :(
Too little information on the mobile version forums (no dates, times, last poster info) and the version without the mobile prefix (selecting the Desktop version makes no difference..) is little better - only one or two words of thread titles visible.  The normal dvdreviewer.co.uk site is fine.
Oh, didn`t realise you didn`t also have the .com domain.

Will be fixing that soon! I think that's the only real difference information wise?

The server that DVD Reviewer sits on will be getting turned off, just as soon as I can do a number of things (like move the hacks over to MyReviewer, offer the old forum users a version which looks very much like the old one).

It's the old new code/old code thing, can't maintain multiple versions easily, or justify spending £250 a month on a server just for the old one! The new one allows additions like uploading images to be so much easier. Not done it yet, but will be doing at some point.

I know blue isn't the Liverpool colours, but it's okay, it isn't the Arsenal colours either.

lol - wasn`t even thinking of that when I mentioned colour.
Was the redirect only from today then?
When accessing the `full` site of myreviewer from a phone, will that only be just one or two words in the thread title - unlike dvdreviewer?

Tbh I've forgotten how the old one did it, did it just show the entire title?

The `old` site (the only one I use - dvdreviewer.co.uk/forums) shows the full website on the phone - full thread title, poster, date etc.).  The blue site asks if I want to see the mobile version - and I cancel.  The result is an attempt at the full site but completely unusable.  Can`t swipe zoom in or out so can`t even see the whole page but can only scroll around the frames.

Red site behaves exactly as though on a PC - can scroll, zoom etc.

Mobile or bust I'm afraid! The non-mobile just won't work on a small screen.

I started getting the blue site from my iphone book mark too, but i now have the full red site back, after changing my bookmark to www.dvdreviewer.co.uk/forums.

Eh??  So it;s going from a site that works fine on a PC or phone (where more and more people access t`internet from nowadays) where I can scroll and zoom as I like - to one that doesn`t even work on a phone or a `mobile` version where I can`t see who posted last or even if ayone has posted?
Small screen?  It has a resolution of 1280 x 720. :/  I rarely use `mobile` versions of sites - but the `Desktop view` option makes no difference here.

Yeah, re-directs for me too - so I changed them back like you - to a site you can actually use.
Problem is, the `red` site is on its way out it appears so you won`t have that option - and its `replacement` "just won`t work on a small screen."

To be honest, I`ve never seen a website that can`t even be viewed in any meaningful way from my phone.  Seems a crazy, crazy call to me RJS. :/ :(

EDIT: Just accessed the myreviewer site from a PC.  It`s actually not much better than the phone version.  No scroll bars either?
Sorry RJS, not meaning to be so negative - but hopefully still some work to be done based on some constructive feedback - esp. if more people are pushed towards it.

I did say I was changing that. ;)

Just to clarify a few things, before WW3 breaks out...

MyReviewer has been this way for a few months now, it doesn't work on small screens which is why there is a mobile version.

There are a number of things I have to do before I redirect DVD Reviewer once and for all, one of those is provide a version of the site which uses scroll bars for people who want them.

All I've done so far, is redirect the old mobile version of the DVD Reviewer forums to the mobile version of MyReviewer. And the only real difference is you can't see who the last poster is, which I said I was changing, and it's blue. Other than that it should work the same (or better) than the old mobile site.

Plus it also includes the reviews and a much better search engine.

If you want to see the full old working site on your mobile, just cancel the redirect when you go to dvdreviewer.co.uk? :)

Hey, you`re the boss.
As I said, I find it madness to have a site that literally doesn`t work on smaller devices - no user choice at all - whereas its predecessor worked fine.
From a mobile, the `new` one doesn`t even allow you to go to the last page of a thread straight away.  From what I can see, you need to open the thread, let the first page load and then select the last page.
The way I think it currently is:
proper site - fine from phone and PC - but will be removed.
mobile version of proper site - now redirects to mobile myreviewer site.
mobile myreviewer site - works from pc, terrible from a phone.
myreviewer site - works on a pc, doesn`t work on a mobile.
