Dubai is full of Aberdeen ex-pats.
The ones I speak to rave about it.

I dont think you`d go wrong living there for a year.....my mate said it was full of eastern european hookers......he had two in one go :D

no seriously......i`ve heard very few bad words about it :)

Companies that have p**sed me off so much that I will never use them again and I hope you dont either....
Jacks Fish & Chips of Cambridge ridiculously overpriced and overpackaged chips. £1.20 for a stupidly small portion of chips - they need to go up north for a good lesson in fish and chips
Alloy Bodies of Manchester - The Grand Daddy & Benchmark for shockingly poor customer service.
Capital Bank Leasing who are part of [B]BOS
& are f**ing useless & struggle to action the smallest request but are fantastically efficient at taking money out of my account
[B]Abbey National
Absolutely diabolical service - how hard is it to change £60 of coins into notes????
....more coming soon no doubt.....

two for the price of one?

blimey..

I have to say that confronted with a hooker my cock is likely to retract like a tortoise with it`s nose smacked..

I might see if they will fund a few days over there before i make any sort of decision.
as far as i know its a town in the middle of nowhere that is much closer to the sun than i would prefer..

That`s a downside they do mention.
That and the fact the shopping is weird.
They say there isn`t such a thing as a shopping `centre`.
A lot of the shops take residence in hotels,so you have to travel from one to the other.
A car is pretty much essential,I believe.
I`ve been offered work there, but I`ve always dismissed it.
I dunno,it just seems more of a holiday destination than a put down roots place.

for me it would be a head down, spend a year saving some money.
then come back and spunk all the money in a couple of weeks.
sorta thing.
my mate goes over there every now and then for his work. he loves it, but he is wierder than charles manson

My best mate worked there for about 15 years. He really loved it, only left there because his girlfriend couldn`t get a residence permit.

I`m living in Dubai right now.
A year is about long enough to do and see everything without getting fed up with the place - its actually not a very big town.
Most free time is spent in one posh bar or another, so if you want to save some cash take it easy on the drinking. Also the cost of rent is soaring every year, prices are comparable to London prices - i have a 2 bed apt in Bur Dubai and pay about £1,100/month.
You can have a really great time here, but the trap is that you end up spending a lot of what you make.
I`m not sure if this was any help? If you have some more specific questions i`ll do my best to answer them for you.

what is the dealio with the beer? you cant drink anywhere but indoors? hotels etc?
and if you are found wandering the streets with a traffic cone on your head you wind up in jail?

Plenty of people I work with have been out there for 6 months or longer if you have any specific questions I`ll be happy to ask them. Generally most of them love it, tho a few do miss the rains and family in England.
