Motorized wheelchair question.

The original 42pcenter MD (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 17th April 2007, 10:53

Walking in to work today I was passed by 2 people in electric wheel chairs. One was on the pavement and the other was swapping between the road and pavement to get the quickest route. He had a sign on the back saying who he was taxed and insured for the road and he had a hand written number plate.

My question is, even though he had the same vehicle as the lady on the pavement, as he was taxed and insured as a road vehicle should he have been on the pavement as I doubt she would be aloud on the road?

This is not a right and wrong thing (feel free to take it there) I was just wondering on the legalities as they were the same vehicle.

I would guess the person in the taxed/registered one should not have been on the pavement.
There was a case in the papers last year remember, where a kid/his parents was prosecuted for using an electric toy buggy on the pavement.

Thanks. So he should have hit the wheelchair equivalent or a pit lane speed limiter when he moved on to the pavement. He was fair chipping so I doubt he was doing that. He left her for dead.

Some chairs go incredibly fast these days, I didn`t realise they need to be road legal though. :o I have a manual chair for when my legs are bad and I can get a fair speed outta that and it`s great fun! (probably cos I am not confined to it permenantly)

Is that the time? Damn you Xbox 360!!!!

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

I hate answering the phone at work - It disturbs my sleep.

I once saw a bloke in a wheelchair get blown over, just outside Aberdeen football club`s ticket shop (near the beach, helluva windy place)
I don`t think p***ing myself laughing makes me a bad person,does it ? :D
Give him his due,he was laughing about it too.

The saddest thing I ever saw was an old geezer with a puncture just sat in the middle of the pavement, looking totally depressed.
