Did I do the right thing?

roar349 (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 29th August 2006, 11:30

It seems to be a week of incidents, this is neither here nor there now as I did what I did, but you always wonder what if I`d done something else...

As most of you know the OH gave birth last Thursday, and after the op she asked me to get her some ribena from the hospital shop.

The maternity ward is in a separate building, and I walked over to the other building past the bus-stop where a bloke and woman were canoodling on a bench. Went to the shop and got a couple of bottles of ribena, looked up and noticed said bloke and woman had changed positions, he was sat on the bench, she was splayed face first on the grass behind the bench out cold.

Said bloke must have seen me (I looked away, not wanting to show I`d noticed, pretty hard not to notice mind), when I looked next he was trying to pick her up saying something like "I told you to leave it".

This is where I`m not sure I did the right thing, usually I would have asked if she was ok etc etc or confronted the guy, but I didn`t. Instead I wandered casually around the corner, legged it to the nearest building and asked someone to call security (there was a bus load of people at the opposite bus stop, not sure if they`d seen/done anything).

I guess in terms of self-preservation/getting `qualified` people in I did the right thing, plus Ellis had just arrived and I wasn`t going to risk not seeing her (I can handle myself, but the guy looked very unpredictable), but I still feel I should have done more. Not sure if anything came of it, and tbh the other excitement of the day kind of made me forget, guess I`ll check the local paper this week to see if it made the news.

You did the right thing, let the blokes who are paid to do it sort them out. He`d have only have walloped you and she`d have stood by her man anyway. :(

Let`s have a pic of the sprog then!

i would have belted the c***.

BUT that wouldn`t have been the right thing to do, i just have a short fuse, thats my weakness, YOU, on the other hand did exactly the right thing.

& unfortunately, there are many who would have just walked away under the impression that it was none of there business, & that would have been very wrong.

so well done, i wish there where more like you, & i hope security got hold of the bastard.

Oooh gowd,difficult one.
I`m firmly in Ogster`s camp.
I`m a `wade in` sort of bloke.
So far,I`ve had no reason to regret it.
If I had,I may think twice.

Whatever you choose to do (wade in or slyly call the cops from a distance),the fact is one should always do something.

I get so sick and tired of people, like my wife, who will simply turn a blind eye.
They are terrified of repurcussions.
She`s convinced that if,for example, she reported someone for theft, they would make it their life`s mission to `get her back`.
So she would be hard pushed to report anything.
I just don`t think like that at all.

Did the right thing by the sounds of it. If I had seen him do it then I would of intervened by restraining him and called for help although last time I restrained a stranger in the supermarket, nobody helped for a few mins until an off duty police officer saw and helped out. As you saw nothing and you had other things on your mind then you did well.

Is that the time? Damn you Xbox 360!!!!

I can`t believe you just stood by without helping the poor guy out.

Oooh, that`ll get me hated.

Intervening would probably not have helped her and may have got you a good kicking so you probably did do the right thing.
