Page 1 of Simple question .. whats criterion?

Heard this mentioned a few times on the forums.

Can anyone enlighten me?

A dvd production company that takes a dvd with say a cr*p transfer and little or no extras and makes it very good. Or if there is a film not yet on dvd, and they think it should be, they get the rights to produce the dvd.

Why are ther no R2 criterion editions? From what i understand, the recently released 2 disc Armageddon set (R2) is identical to its R1 Criterion edition in all but name.

criterion are an american company and produce only NTSC dvds (regions 1 and 0) Yeah the armageddon disk is nearly the same except it does not have micheal bays gag reel i dont think.

Apparently there`s no gag reel on the R2 version. A minor thing.

Criterion, while they select movies for DVD, have been doing this for years on laserdisc before DVD, and they do interesting projects, including Beastie Boys!!

Look on the spine of the R2 Armageddon release, it has CRITERION COLLECTION printed near the top!!!

A Criterion version of Silence Of The Lambs went for £7.50 on Yahoo Auctions a few weeks back

I didn`t get it coz the cover was different - I thought it was a copy lol
