The Great Cereal Scam!

Matthew Smart (Reviewer) posted this on Wednesday, 15th March 2006, 16:16

Maybe it`s just me, but does anyone remember when a box of cereal lasted over a week?

How it it that now, in a box of 450g, with a recommended portion size of 40g, I`m only getting 5 or 6 average sized bowls before it`s done. It`s a disgrace, I tell thee!

It`s not like I use giant, cave troll bowls. Just ordinary wee bowls. And no-one`s pinching my Weetabix Minis, because they know I`d have their head on a pike.

Surely there`s some sort of cereal scam going on! :/

well do you actually weigh your portions to make sure they are in line with the recommended amount?.

It may be that although you may not have troll like feasts of a morning you are just having bigger portions that the suggested amount,

In an attempt to control the prospect of an ever-increasing waistline, I`m pretty careful about portion size. I don`t weigh them, but I`m *fairly* (ahem...) average sized, and am still starving after a bowl, so I ain`t overdoing it.

Plus, on the cereal topic, when did Weetos start to taste awful?

40g is a very small amount - about 3 tablespoons of muesli or porridge oats. It is impossible to actually weigh out 40g unless you have digital scales - analogue scales measure in multiples of 50g.
I always have my cereal in a "babies" plasic bowl, and mix it with yogurt instead of milk.

I used to love Frosties, but now for some strange reason now my stomach can`t take the high sugar flakes anymore, so now I stick to boring old cornflakes, Weetabix, or any form of high fibre cereals.

Its a bit of a false economy, Matt66. I have a reasonably big bowl of cerial for breakfast. I figure that filling up on flakes of corn and half a pint of semi skimmed is better for me and more economical than having a crappy bowl of cerial and having a mars bar of a twix mid morning.

If I have a big enough bowl, it lasts me till lunch. Or I may have an apple when I get to work for a bit of energy.

I dont know what the diminutive scottish poo monster would have to say about that, but it a big bowl certainly stops me snacking until lunch. And probably works out cheaper than a mars bar. (im starting to fret about my girth too. The mrs is still a svelt size 8 and im making up for the both of us......)

Good to see you are playing the loyal Hubby and protecting your good lady Nick - if only from the onset of weight gain. The things we have to do huh!

Mind you, i`d still remain wary of that age old bitch of a question "do i look fat / big in this?"

You know your gonna say no, you know you (more thank likely) actually believe that but you also know that your response is gonna be met by a verbal tirade like no other!!
