The Reviewer Football Thread

dkuk2000 (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 7th August 2005, 09:53

I thought as the season is under way (or nearly for the premiership) we should have a football thread for gossip, comments on matches etc.

Just been browsing skysports and stumbled across this.

Quote:
Whilst Liverpool failed in their bid to land Figo, talk on Merseyside is that they may return to Madrid in a bid to secure former favourite Michael Owen.

The indications are that Owen will make a move back to The Premiership before the summer`s close and whilst Liverpool initially stated they were not interested, talk is that Benitez has now warmed to the idea with Milan Baros looking likely to be on his way out of Anfield.

What a signing that would be as long as he`s not given an automatic starting place.
I mean just think a goal hungry michael owen he could be lethal. :D :D :D

I think he could return to England, but time is running out for teams to get in there. Feel sorry for him, as he`s done superb at Madrid but has been edged out of the team. Would Rafa really go for him again?

Anyway, what are everyone`s predictions for the top 5 this season?

1st - Chelski
2nd - Man Utd
3rd - Arse
4th - Liverpool
5th - Spurs

Here`s Chucky!

I got the impression that Rafa didn`t want owen to go in the first place.
Also the Baros situation does make you think ...................maybe ?

Can I just mention that I love Chelsea and they were exceedling awesome against the scum yesterday - Drogba better perform like that the whole season - he might be worth £24 million Abramovich Dollars.

1 down - 38 to go!

Must have been watching a different game to me then, i saw a crap team that defended for 90 minutes with 7 men behind the ball and then got lucky with 2 long balls that didn`t go to an offside player. How long before the boring boring Chelsea chants start eh? It is also worth remembering that the last 8 winners of the shield have failed to win the league that year, so enjoy the silverware could be the only bit you get.

Yesterdays match means precisely bugger all. Hardly anyone seemed totally match fit and I think they both treated it as just a pre-season friendly.

Regarding the Owen thing, he would be an idiot to come back to Liverpool. Personally, I think that if he cant get a top 3 side in this country he will stay and fight for his place at Real.

Its not like hes hugely unhappy anyway. All those talks of `Owens Come and get me plea` seem like bollocks. He scored a hatfull of the bench last season and hes certainly got the skill to force his way in. Plus hes only 25 so hes got time to stay and fight before he admits defeat and comes back to england to top up his pension. Hes also being payed a bucket load to live in spain and play for, arguably, the worlds biggest team. I bet hes crying into his piella.

As far as this season is concerned, same top 3 finish as last year, but I expect Arsenal to close the gap, points wise, on chelsea, with Manyoo finishing on a similar tally as last season. 4th will probably go to Liverpool, as rafa beds his team in. 5th Everton, 6th Spurs or Bolton.

Any thoughts as to where the mighty Rams will finish this season, Nick? I think we over-achieved last season, our sensational away form basically keeping us in the play-off spots. I feel a lower top half finish is what can be expected this time around.
