Whatever Happened To Saturday Football

Andy Larkin (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 2nd August 2005, 10:10

Just checked my Arsenal fixture list for the coming season. We dont have a home game on a Saturday until October 22nd. Bloody TV companies ruining traditional Saturday football.

Even though you`re a gooner,I agree.
Saturday afternoons or Wednesday nights.
It`s all over the bloody place, which just causes friction in our house.
Of course,I still go. :D

Totally agree. Saturday and wednesday, Home one week, away the next.

F***ing TV.

Also one of the problems is if you go to one of the stupid tuesday or friday games you occasionally get lumbered with, the ground is half empty.

Same here!

I will always remember waking up on Saturday mornings and - after watching Tizwaz(spelling!!??) - settling down for `On The Ball` with news on ALL the games for that day!

The only footy I remember on a Sunday is highlights of all the Saturday games on `The Big Match` with Brian Moore!

Also , I remember when the F.A. Cup was a highlight in the footballing calender! No kids Saturday programmes that day.....only Tom & Jerry cartoons in the early morning followed by hours and hours of coverage of the big cup final! Interviews with fans on the trains/coaches....interviews with celebrities in the studio....a match between celebrities before the actual cup final....footage of goals from previous cup finals....

Is it just me or was it better in those days????

Football seems bland in comparison nowadays........ :(

We were saying that about the FA cup this year.

We got the beers in, ready to roll at midday and the coverage started well late. Like 1.30/2.00. It used to start mid-morning, im sure.

They had everyone you can imagine on and a good playing of the teams FA Cup songs. It was like christmas, waking up on FA Cup day.........
