Lots of the newer DVD-ROMS are wots called RPC2 - that is guff for region locked!

They usually allow up to 5 changes of region using software - (power DVD will do this with mine, a pioneer 16 speed DVD). After the fifth change, the last region selected is locked forever.

The trick is to look for some hacked firmware - (the program on a chip inside your ROM) and flash update the drive to RPC1 which allows region changes.

A bit of freeware that will tell you if your drive is RPC1 or 2 is DVD DRIVEINFO (sometimes just called drive info)

try:-

http://www.7thzone.com/cgi-bin/categ_downloads.cgi?id=26

for dvd driveinfo

and

http://www.7thzone.com

for firmware & software. I`m sure there are loads of other sites too.

Word of warning though - flashing the ROM firmware if not done properly can lead you to a dead drive, so print n read the readme files that come with the firmware flashing software.

I recently tried this for my drive and it worked a dream.

Hope this helps

my pc dvd has been changed 4 times, a maximum of 6 is allowed, anyway my hard drive broke and I got it replaced with a new one, will it go back to six new changes again?

The changes reset only when you format your hard drive, my ATI DVD allows 5 changes, but I have DVD genie which alows me to change as many time as I like. It`s just bypass the software and don`t even need to install it, just put unzip to any folder in the hard drive, select the region and watch the film. The whole program is only about 300K.

DVD Genie only works on certain drives ie, those that can have the region setting re-set via software. Others need a firmware hack. Some firmware hacks differ. You can get programs to just reset the firmware after it`s reached its "five time" limit, but then this software only allows in most cases to reset your DVD 5 times therefore you get 25 region changes before it locks completely. Others simply make them region free and you don`t have to worry after that. A word of warning though, most of these firmwares are exactly what they say they are...hacks. You`ll find very few if any official hacks so use them with caution or you could bugger your drive up.

I have a Pioneer DVD Rom dvd 105 1.22 version. Where can i find a firmware that will enable me to view all regions. My dVD rom is locked at region 1 now.

If you`ve changed it more than 5 times that may be it! but try doing the Firmware update and see what happens.

You need the file 105F_122.zip from

http://www.7thzone.com/cgi-bin/download_dvd.cgi?id=1465
This is a login page for the pioneer firmware page(you`ll have to sign up but that`s free).

or goto

http://www.7thzone.com

Go to the downloads--firmware--dvdrom--pioneer section & choose the 105 file section

This will update your ROM firmware so that you can change the region code.

The same site has utilities that read the firmware version (DVD info) and a must have called DVD genie. I used this and now have a regionless PC DVD player that rocks!

Hope this helps
