What dvd player to buy?

c@ke2k01 (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 26th April 2001, 22:29

Hey guys, i know this question has been asked many times.

But what CHEAP dvd player do i buy?

i know theres one in tesco for £100 i think.
theres one in Toys r us (alba)

It HAS to be able to be multi-region, play mp3`s, and play any other cdr/cdrw you can throw at it.

Cheers in advance

If you`ve seen one in Tesco`s for £100 grab it - it`s probably the end of line Wharfedale 750 or 750S.

Avoid the Alba 103 like the plague - big problems with this player

The Ariston is not bad actually. It seems to be a heavily underrated DVD player.
It`s multiregional (it can handle RCE discs too), plays MP3`s and also disables macrovision.
The only thing I found wrong with it was that the sound quality from CD playback is quite poor. But then again DVD players are mainly about movies and the playback from DVD discs is just fine on this player!
I recommend it!

Hi,

I've recently purchased a Cyberhome AD-M512 from WH Smith £129.99 - very happy!!

Check out the review on the Cyberhome AD-M212, in the April "What Video & TV" magazine. The 212 is virtually identical to the 512, except the 512 has the addition of Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder & line outs.

Depending on what firmware you have loaded, you can also play any region DVD's, as well as turn off Macrovision.

The 512 was selling for £199 at jungle.com. I understand that it is available from branches of Richer Sounds for about £120?? Also.

Check out this link to an English speaking German web site. Everything that you will need to know is available here:

Hope this helps,

Ok thanks guys

ye m8 it is £120 there + £8 p+p

So, what dvd player could i buy if money was no object? It must play all of the above

Also, what dvd player is there, that is multi-region BUT you dont need a hack, so you can just put the cd in with no problems..

Cheers

If money is no object? Get a top of the range pioneer, £1200 in R2 and another one in Region1. So you don`t have any RCE problems.

Then get a duo Pentium 4 1.5Ghz with 512 MB with soundbaster Live platinum plus 21inch TFT flat screen for around £4000 just for MP3.

And why do you want to disable Macrovision when money is no object? Since you can buy all the DVDs ever and not starting a cyndicate to start pirate movies.

Oh, to play those Mp3s or your DVDs, get a Denon Reciever at £2500 , it has Dolby 7.1, DTS..... plus a pair B&W Nautilus 801 for fronts £8000, N802 for rears £6500, N805 £1500 and a centre from the CM series for £400. No need for any sub if you know the speakers I am talking about. With that you might need the Marantz SA-1 Cd player for £5000 to play CDs. don`t forget about 10% of the total for cables.

Total......33000, isn`t it nice when money is no object. And do you want a TV to go with that? watching it on a 14ich portable would be stupid. might as well go for the Marantz plasma for £10000.
