crouching tiger problem - help?

john gosling (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 25th March 2001, 17:34

Hi,

I just got Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon on import and while I can play the movie, I have real problems with the extra features.

The directors commentary cannot be accessed - on trying to select it, the option is just skipped over.

Also, when trying to change audio and subtitle settings, it is pot luck if you can actually get to the required screen. Usually, on selecting the option, the screen appears but then just skips back a screen.

Just to make matters worse, the black borders on the widescreen format are extremely weird. You have the normal black borders, but within these are two even blacker bars, that tend to expand and contract.

The player is a Bush 102.

Just wondering if anyone has seen anything like this and if there is a workround?

Cheers,

John.

This sounds like you have a Silver Copy of the film, directors commentary and other features are normaly dropped to fit it on a single sided disk. Where did you get it from?

Cheers,

From an aution on the QXL site.

How would I tell if its a "silver" copy and does that mean I have bought a fake :-)

It looks like an original, as far as I can see - not that I`d really know :-)

Be very careful with QXL - I nearly got stung by someone offering a R0 DVD of CTHD there. Apparently if it has DD150 stamped on the disc it`s a duffer !!!

Some bloke on there sells 100 every week (Steve something) - tell me they ain`t fakes ?

Hi... I just "won" 3 copies from QXL... they are from the guy that sells 100... has anyone bought any of these copies from him? If so, what`s the score... I`ve been waiting a long time to get an affordable copy of the movie after a stupidly long wait at Movietyme etc. Please let me know if I should buy these copies or write them off and wait for Region1?

I got mine from Coolashop (Hong Kong online store) just before the distributors decided to take off the English subtitles.
Everything works, the film the extras
