Page 1 of Non-Widescreen Version Of The X-Men

I haven`t got a widescreen telly, although it is a Panasonic 20" tv. I don`t see what all the hype is about Widescreen tvs, etc. Does anyone know if a non-widescreen version of the X-Men will be released in the UK? It would be interesting to know what percentage of homes in the UK own a widescreen tv as I don`t think many do, so therefore what is the point of releasing it in widescreen when many people don`t have the equipment to view it properly on?

point of widescreen is that the film is MADE in widescreen - slice the sides off and you`re slicing off 1/3rd of the film!

once you move to widescreen you`ll know why!

t.v.s are moving to widescreen - I suspect in a couple years

and eastenders is in widescreen!

In fact, just take a look down any Tv listings mag at how many programmes have W/S beside them, and you`ll see that we`re moving in that direction.
Films are being shown in W/S on TV, albeit chopped to a smaller ratio from their usual aspect.

Look at this years new models from all the major tv makers you will see how many of them are widescreen.

Why do you want a non-widescreen version of X-Men, you will lose 50% of the picture.

Digital TV has built in support for widescreen tvs.

DVD is a home "cinema" format, it was designed to allow films to be shown as they were meant to be, with widescreen films this means in "widescreen".
If you want 4:3 go buy a VHS.

The real sin here is that if the DVD author wished to they could put the P&S info in and the one disc could be used on what ever format TV you wanted it to, and not on what they tell you to.

And let`s be honest - some unscrupulous companies still pass off 4:3 DVDs as being the bees` knees (er, the X Files Series 1 springs to mind, although Fox shot it in that ratio).

Some discs (`flippers` especially) do give you the option between 4:3 and widescreen - we should never forget that, despite their popularity, widescreen tellies are still less commonplace than 4:3 in the home.

Studios should sell DVD-18 (double-sided) as standard, so that people who haven`t made the jump to w/s can still enjoy at least some of the benefits of DVD.

Have to agree tho`, since I got my w/s telly I always think when I watch a 4:3 telly I`m being shortchanged !!!

The future of video is DVD, the future of television is widescreen, bub!
