DON`T BUY FROM DIXONS OR CURRYS

andrewh (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 23rd February 2001, 10:27

Just a warning to people after my experience. I bought a Grundig 220 player from Currys a month ago. It skips on disks like a lamb in the spring, yet they refused to exchange it for a different model because when they `tested` it in store (by watching a film for 2 minutes, the problem (unsuprisingly) wasn`t apparent. They also claim that they only exchange for `technical faults` (i.e. not design faults with all examples of a particular product) Everyone - stick to those places that give you a `no quibble` guarantee exchange or refund e.g. Tesco or Richer Sounds - you might save yourselves a lot of hassle and energy. Im stuck with a rubbish player now, and I haven`t got the time to take them to court over it. I blame myself - I`d never usually buy anything from those places, but I paid the price. They don`t give a damn about their customers, so, be warned.

Mention Trading Standards & WATCHDOG to them.

Finally NEVER LET SOMEONE SH*T ALL OVER YOU, PARTICULARLY WHEN THERE`S MONEY INVOLVED.

FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS EVEN IF IT COSTS YOU.

OR YOU`LL BE JUST ANOTHER SUCKER TO THEM!

Now get back to that secondhand joke store and show them youre a man.

They have sold you goods that aren`t fit for the purpose they were designed for, not exchanging it is against your consumer rights.
Go back in and don`t take no for an answer!

I agree on the statement that you should not accept no for an answer, and I would think the watchdog thing is a decent shot, but trading standards would be better IMO as the gas board that my parents are using didn`t send bills for more than a year, then sent a whopping two grand bill, we stood our ground, saying that we weren`t going to pay one lump sum, then complained to the trading standards.
Although it was only around £50 for gesture of good will, we`ve more or less nearly got it our way, because our dad won`t pay the bill other than how he wan`ts to pay it.

And a more helpful reply.
Hope this helps.

You could hack it using the remote control to make it only play R1 DVDs then when they try it in the shop they`ll have to give you a refund cus it is faulty. This worked for me when Tempo refused to give me a refund on a Samsung 511 because it had a very noise DVD drive when spinning, they said they could`t hear anything but what happend to the Customer is always right? You have to do all you can to get ya money back althwise they we do this to other people and get anyway with it.

Anyone in a store with a brain would realise this had been done as the display would now read "Check Region" indicating the player was no longer R2, and therefore, not their problem!!
That would only work if the player was brand new.

However, to help the original poster of this thread: if the player is GENUINELY faulty, ie: skipping on more than just one disc and the discs are OK on other players, ask them to have it run on "test" in the workshop.
Email me direct and I`ll give you more exact instructions that will save you the grief and get your player running again. :o)

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!

The hack leaves the machine salvageable!

You want revenge!
If you can get acess to a Mega-tester. Set it to 1000V+ and scrape the probe over the scart and other connctors, making sure the other probe has an effective ground path.
Whistle a little tune whilst doing this and enjoy the fresh ozone smell of arcing PCB tracks. Ahhhhhh. My favourite smell!

Duh. It dont work. I want my money back.

Perhaps in a few months time an engineer will ring you and ask if you have recently experienced a surge of electricity in your home.

DENY EVERYTHING!

Always works for me ;-)

BTW If you havent got a mega-tester. 30V PSU with current limiting (10mA is enough) should work great.

F*CK DIXONS/CURRYS & ANYONE ELSE WHO RIPS U OFF
