I have them on both my PC system in the office and also my home theatre PC system + hifi gear. The insurance aspect of them is a bit silly if you ask me, as everything should be covered on your house insurance anyway. But...

...they can stop lock ups on your PC caused by power spikes. Its extremely rare for a power spike to damage a computer, but if you get total freezes (including mouse cursor) for no reason at all then it may well be related to this.

A friend had a lightning strike blow his computer when it was only connected by the phone socket.

The computer was replaced by insurance and was struck again but luckily only the modem needed replacing.

I will be getting one which does the phone socket as well and I noticed only some cover lightning?

I always disconnect the plug and phone line when my PC is switched off.

I dont turn it on either, if a storms brewing..

Lightening comes down your TV ariel aswell.. then into your TV and power sockets... Bang !

How effect is the power surge protection method anyway ?
Will this stop lightening frying your equipment ?
Only stops normal power surges doesnt it ?

Woo, paranioa or what pal ;-) Seriously though just to be safe I`d unplug every electrical appliance once you`ve finished with it. Also border up your doors and windows just before you go to bed, you never know!

Touch wood I`ve never had any problems like that with my compu

Seen some BELKIN ones, they cover TV, PHONE, AND MAINS, and some sort of damage cover worth up to about 30K for your equipment, if it gets damage by lighting or mains surge.
