Video CD`s

martin d (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 8th December 2000, 14:29

Does anyone know if when making Video CD`s it matters if they are in NTSC or PAL format?. I am currently playing around with TMPGEnc to convert AVI`s to MPG and am wondering if my Wharfedale 750s will be able to handle Video CD`s if they are NTSC format. Can you change the setup menu so that it converts an NTSC Video CD to PAL?.

Any help would be appreciated.

If it helps, http://www.coolvcd.com/ sent us the Star Wars trilogy and Episode 1 from the US which presumably is in whatever format they use there (watch for a feature on these soon) and they played fine on both my Pioneer 505 and Mark`s Wharfedale 750.

Conversion would be the same as for NTSC DVDs I would have thought.

I`m not sure how bad Wharfedale NTSC conversion problem really is but check the frame rates of your original AVI. If its 29.97 its NTSC. 25fps = PAL and leave TMPGEnc to output withOUT conversion.
You always notice the conversion no matter whether its NTSC-to-PAL or vice versa.
SO LEAVE IT IN THE ORIGINAL FORMAT.
