ROVER METRO PROBLEM

I drive a rover metro 1.1 and i was driving down the a38, i droped a gear 2 gain speed but by mistake i went into reverse. as u can image the car no longer starts i had it toed 2 my house any idea what damage it woud have done and how much it will cost 2 fix?

It`s a few years since I worked at the trade but her goes from memory. (So please bear this in mind )
I would reckon you have probably goosed the clutch pressure plate,and possibly the clutch assembly.If you heard loud/ long crunching etc you might have goosed the reverse gear bearing/teeth.If your car won`t start then there is a chance that the whole flywheel/drive plate assembly is goosed as well (Thats where the starter motor engages with a ring of teeth on the outside of the flywheel and turns the engine over) Unless you are mechanically minded you would probably be better getting a re-conditioned gearbox. No idea of the cost but if you do get one it shouldn`t be too difficult for a DIY mechanic to change. Most difficult bit is the fact that it`s on the side of the engine rather than at the rear and as such the engine can sometimes rock making it harder to engage the splines/clutch pressure plate/spigot bearing. Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear but as they say "Thems The Breaks Bud". HTH
