Help me! Which Gamecube games to buy?

Ascomdog (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 5th May 2002, 21:20

I have ordered a Gamecube today (should get it next Wednesday).

As I will be getting two games of my choice with the package, which games are the canines testicles? Out of the launch line up, which two would be the ones to get?

Cheers.

If you want to impress your mates get Rogue Leader - it looks the business and is the best Star Wars console game to date - but it is a tad shallow in the gameplay department.

If you are a real gamer then you have to get WaveRace - it`s by far the best racing (not driving) game on any console. A lot of people will tell you it sucks but that`s because they don`t put in the time to get used to the (initially) tricky controls. Put a bit of effort in and you`ll be rewarded with a racer that is hard to beat...

I played my mates GameCube for a few hours on Friday night. He has the following games...

ISS 2, Star Wars: Rogue Leader, WaveRace: Blue Storm and Super Monkey Ball.

Out of the four, I honestly thought that Super Monkey Ball was by far the best. Basically, you control a monkey trapped in a little ball, which you have to navigate around little arenas collecting Dole bananas along the way. Sounds bizarre, but its sheer genius. Trust me, if you get a couple of mates round with a few beers, this`ll have you in stitches.

ISS 2 - good footy game, not sure if it`s better than FIFA.

WaveRace - very good, fast racing game, with superb graphics.

Star Wars - amazing graphics and sound, Star Wars fans will go nuts over this.

I have Super Monkey Ball and Rogue Leader, both are excellent, for single player fun, RL is a blast; all that "Red 5 standing by" stuff rox :) SMB is excellent fun as well, the little multiplayer games r quality.

Super Monkey Ball is simply fantastic - by far the best Cube launch title for gameplay and sheer originality and party play.
Rogue Leader is an experience if anything else! Went to a mates house last night where he was playing it on his 56" rear pro widescreen Toshiba with his Denon Pro Logic 2 reciever making us feel like were in some sort of DIY Star Wars movie - the difference DPL2 makes to the sound over ordinary stereo or pro logic is staggering! However, it is a little easy to complete - so isn`t quite the best.
Luigi`s Mansion is great, but not the best game ever. Fantastic technical effects though.

But isn`t it ironic that the best Cube game so far [in my opinion anyway], is made by Sega?.....

Actually I`m finding Rogue Leader damned hard at the minute. Spent the last couple of days attempting to complete a mission and have finally suceeded. And I would class myself as quite a good games player too.

Monkey Ball is great - can spend loads of hours on it, but you need four joypads (and some mates of course) to get the best out of it!

Good recommendations.

However, I must point you all in the joyous direction of "Bloody Roar". I was a bit sceptical, but bought it today, and it`s Ace! I haven`t even played multiplayer yet, which will undoubtedly be even better.

Awesome graphics, speedy animations and smooth gameplay. Good learning curve too.

Right, I have now been informed that they have my Gamecube in stock at Dixons. I have asked them to reserve me a copy of Super Monkey Ball but I am undecided to which other game game to get.

I am considering one of the following...Bloody Roar, Star Wars, Tony Hawks or Luigis Mansion....I`m all confused!!!
