Gamecube Verus Playstation 2

Which one is the better and why?

(Thinking of getting rid of my PS2 for a gamecube)

I`ve got both and I never use my PS2.

I spend most of my time playing donkey konga with the wife and kids and mario party or monkey ball.

The GC is more a family orientated machine with cartoony graphics but the games are fun.
The PS2 is more single player serious gaming.

PS2: more games available, more peripherals available, more adult orientated gameplay, all round entertainment unit as can double as a CD or DVD player.
Can be chipped to play imported games or backups.

Gamecube: Less games available but to a (IMHO) higher standard.
Technically superior (can`t remember all the details about polygons n stuff, but the GC specs released were for actual polygons as displayed, ie: filled, textured etc, PS2 & XBox specs were for just polygons drawn, like the old Tank arcade game...)
Games in general more targeted at the younger audience, but still damned good fun for all us oldies.
Think there`s an add on now for import game playing, but totally forget backups! The only way I have heard of is to link it via a network adapter thing to the PC and get the images online to play direct from the PC. Dunno how good or successful that is though.
Won`t play CD or DVD (unless you get the Panasonic hifi one from Japan...I wanted one of those ones!), so it`s games machine only!

End result is I have both. I use my PS2 for DVD R testing and the odd game (I have the old GT3 pack, not DVDR friendly, deliberately! Lol), and my Gamecube for gaming.

Only other thing I could add is that you already have a PS2....go buy a Gamecube and have the best of both :D
Oh, and the PS2 can go online to play, as of yet I don`t think Nintendo have done it, but they keep hinting at it

I have both and wouldn`t have traded one in for t`other. Both have some good games that are exclusive to them. You can pick up a gamecube pretty cheap nowadays in some fairly good packs e.g. toysrus and game do reasonably good deals at around the £70-80 mark.

I don`t imagine a traded in ps2 will knock much of that price.

And you never know what you might get in the January sales by way of good deals. WHSmiths have a tendecny to reduce consoles in the sales cos they just aren`t selling any stuff very well at the moment.

No idea what the second hand PS2 game market is like, but the GC one is very good on ebay, you can pick up loads of titles a year old or over, including many classics, from £10-£15.

Really is nothing to beat Mario Kart Double Dash, Pikmin, Luigi`s Mansion, Mario Party for when the friends are round, and the Star Wars series if your a Jedi nut. :)

You can pick up a 2nd hand Gamecube for under £40 at Gamestation, get both. I have a GC and am not dissapointed but San Andreas and Final Fantasy are swaying me to get a PS2 soon.

Get both, they both have fantastic games and the Game cube is dirt cheap now.

Brought a Megadrive weekend with 8 games (£10) including sonic and love playing the retro games use to play when was younger. Gonna keep this and my PS1 and sell my Gamecube and PS2 (which just put up on trading) and stick with that. I prefer gameplay over graphics and find PS1 titles have very good gameplay
