I`ve been buying the single DVDs for my kids (and me) over the last couple of months and I think that they`re great value at £11.99 for four episodes vs £8.99 on VHS for 3 episodes. I`ve got all volumes bar 5, 6, and 8 now.

The kids (3 and 5) love it, and really enjoy the special features - which I was happy to see just once.

Why not buy them a vol at a time like I did. It`ll cost only(!) £95.92 from Play and you can treat it like an easy payments scheme. All you lose is the slipcase & companion disc. However, if you collect the vouchers in vols 1-4, Carlton will supposedly send those - the closing date is end 2001, I don`t know if they`ll still honour it, but I`ll try one of these days.

Incidentally, for the boxed set www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk has ca £78.05 http://www.dvdzone2.com/cgi-bin/en/OM.cgi?command=showitems&pos=0&type=search&search=4127

I was thinking about ordering but then realised that it was French packaging and preferred to stay safer!

A word of warning for anyone tempted by cheap DVDs in French packaging. I was in Lille last month, on a long weekend, and was seduced by a single-package set of "The Persuaders" (or "Amicalement Votre" as they know it en France) in one of the big multimedia department stores. The packaging said English and French audio, with French subtitles, but when I got it home discovered that the menu set up only offered 2 options - either French language or English with French subtitles. In other words, to watch in English you had to have the French subtitles on screen. The disk setup also disabled the remote control audio and subtitle switches, so you couldn`t change them on the fly. I did find a workaround, but it could be a bit fiddly for children. Also all the extras were either French language or English with subtitles burned in. I raise this because my DVDs are ITC/Carlton, which I believe is also the pedigree for the Gerry Anderson stuff.
