Thank You For Smoking

I just watched this and thought it was brilliant. Very funny. :D

I did a quick search for the title on here and nothing turned up. Has anyone else seen it?

Yes, saw it a few weeks back at a preview.
Was disappointed, thought it was so busy being politically incorrect with the even `tobacco lobbyists are human beings too` satirical slant that it forgot to be funny except for the odd moment
And there were too many plot threads introduced and never mentioned again.
Still, maybe it caught me on a bad evening.
Any other views?

I saw it earlier this week and really enjoyed it. It`s very sharply scripted and Aaron Eckhart is brilliant as the lobbyist for Big Tobacco who can turn about every situation to his own advantage simply by word manipulation. The conversations with the `Merchants of Death` were really funny as they compared the lethal nature of their various products and the `Pride in America: We have the best government money can buy` sign on the wall was a great touch. The casting of Cameron Bright was strange as he seems to excel in playing `creepy` children (see Birth and Godsend) so he was an odd choice to play an `everyday` kid. The third act didn`t seem to sustain the energy of the first two but there were enough jokes and sharp lines in the beginning of the film to sustain it to the end.

I thought it was really funny. As a satire it`s not really doing anything new, but Eckhart plays his part perfectly, allowing you to root for the bad guy.

I haven`t been to the cinema much recently as there has been nothing but absolute crap on (Fast & Furious 3, Ultra-Violet, why waste your time even if it doesn`t cost any extra?)

United 93 and Thank You For Smoking are the only films I`ve seen in the last 3 weeks I think, which feels like I`ve completely abandoned the cinema. Although, to be fair, I`ve not had much free time considering I work 3 jobs.

At least Pirates 2 and Superman Returns are out this week and next, some proper summer blockbusters
