Stressed-Dad (Competent) posted this on Friday, 16th June 2006, 11:45

Hi all

Was thinking of buying these and was wondering what the picture quality is like and also if the extras on the sets are any good.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
David

According to dvdcomparison.

Halloween Divimax is the one to get.

Quote:
Halloween II: R2 United Kingdom - (Castle Home Video) - (Castle Home Video) - Cut by 17 seconds during the scene where Michael dunks a nurse into a boiling Jacuzzi. The final two thrusts under the water have been removed, a close up of her burnt face and then Michael throwing her naked body to the floor

yes the Sanctuary is uncut but the picture quality is crap, so it`s best to get the R1 Universal edition.

Halloween III which is cut, so best get the R1 edition.

From Dvd comparison.

Quote:
R2 United Kingdom - (Sanctuary Digital Entertainment) - Yes - (2:06) of cuts. The BBFC classification states it`s a re-edited version and is shorter than previous releases:

-One scene that seems to come and go depending upon the version is a close up of a woman`s face who`s just been blasted in the mouth by an blue energy beam. The next thing we see is a bug crawling out of a large hole in her rather molten looking face. Other versions fade to black before the camera can close in on her face.

-The love scene between the two main characters has been slightly trimmed

-When the old man is killed in the junkyard, you loose the footage of his head being pulled off and the resultant fountain of blood.

-In the scene were the robot man attacks the woman in the laborotory, he reaches for a drill, it starts to spin and in the video version it cuts off. In a showing on Sky we see a shot of the woman being drilled with the head obscured by a hospital trolley, but you can hear the sound of her being drilled and see her legs shaking.

-There are missing scenes during the death of Harry Grimbridge, these are three shots of the assassins fingers in his eyes, the wrenching of the skull and his feet thrashin.

I would hold off a bit as they are re-realsing Halloween 4 and 5 in Divimax edition.

Halloween IV, V VI, H20, and Ressurection are all good on either R1 or R2.

Friday the 13th 1 to 8 in the UK have all the cuts waived, but like R1 they are still cut by the MPAA.

But do get the first film on R2 as it is totally uncut, unlike the R1 edition.

dvdcomparison says...

Quote:
Each disc are held in their own clear little slim cases. The box that houses all the discs is embossed, with the contours of Jason's mask jutting out of the box.

All the original Friday the 13th DVDs were all single layer discs, so what Paramount has done for the box set is group two of those single layer transfers on each dual layered, single sided disc. Reviews indicate slightly better picture quality on part one and four.

Then you have to get Jason goes to Hell Region 1 which has the unrated and rated version, and 5.1 unlike region 2 which is uncut but it`s 4:3 pan and scan and only in stereo.

Jason X region 2 for superior audio and extras.

Hope all that helps.

IIRC the UK Anchor Bay 8 disc set of the Halloween movies are all uncut.
Some of the other releases from other companies are the old cut versions but the AB ones are ok.
However, the brilliant 90 minute doco from the first Halloween 2 disc set is not included in the 8 discer

All cuts waived for the 2002 Anchor Bay DVD release.

Halloween III

The latest widescreen version submitted in 2002 seems to be pre-cut. It is missing most of the gore! (the bit in the hospital where the bloke gets his face pulled apart and the insects crawling out of that woman`s mouth after she fiddled with the badge are all missing)
